Ally the ottomans, expand in thlemcen and tunis, move down to africa and take the sweet gold mines while also exploring. To attack the iberians you will need a good opportunity since castille and portugal are almost always allied. The only time i formed andalusia was around 1650.

Or perhaps ally France. That can be a viable option especially if there is a rivalry between France and Castile/Spain. I also recommend expanding east to secure all of North Africa and get into the Horn of Africa. If you can get an alliance with both France and Ottomans you’ve done extremely well.

Also, you can jump on Portugal when Spain/Castille gets overwhelmed in a war, usually with France. From ther you start eating away at the rest of Iberia

I believe you can score a French alliance using the Granada strategy of enforce peace during the maine war (england france war you see every start of the game)

this was pretty long ago but when I did this I managed to Ally Aragon because we had the same rival in castile...
Fabricated my claim on Granada before their truce with Castille had got out and full annexed him. Builded 2 more castles in the nice mountain provinces next to granath.
Aragon had France as ally to and when he declared on Castille I stayed in my mountains with castles and messed him and Portugal up when they tried and when they where down for knock out I did a separate peace and took sevilla, cadiz and Murcia. Aragon was pretty pissed but I managed to keep my alliance. Portugal lost their alliance to England and Castille in the war and I was able to take him out before he got a new alliance. Then I took on Tlemcen who had won his war against Tunis because Tunis was in another war together with Ottomans against Mamluks.
Then it was war on Castille again and I had claimes this time who Aragon gave me :). Boom! Castille got the Iberian wedding and rivals me and france and the pope. I became ally to france and then we rolled them over like it was nothing :)

why use marocco for this and not granada? i had the feeling it is much easier with granda because they are in europe and it is easier to ally european powerhouses like aragon and france

Granada was too small so I was scared of being killed early

understandable...however if you can get france and aragon in an alliance with you it is much easier and i think marocco has two big disadvantages: it is much harder to get an alliance with france(aragon should still be possible) and you have to cross a strait to reach castille.
both are major problems because you have to expand your empire first to be strong enough to beat castile and you have to gamble that castile doesn't get the pu over aragon before that. if castile has the pu over aragon your chances are very low....

My own tactic as of a few versions ago was to steal colonies from portugal and castille after eating Tclemen for development and getting my foot in the door into colonization of Brazil by seizing spaniard colonies & provinces around Africa that gave them colonizing range.

Colonial dominance let me do silly things like this screenshot.

Tarriffs and african expansion gave me enough power to attack a weakened castille that hadn't formed spain & pick off a small state of portugal. Making Granada into a march i would list as a very important step to forming Andalusia out of a dominant morrocan state, though its overrated because it only resets your historical alliances and gives you some prestiege.
