It's just my game or Castille/Spain is incredible unbalanced?
I'm playing with England for a while, this is my third game after I bought the golden century DLC, and all I can see is Castille/Spain everywhere! It's 1545 and Spain has 4 colonial nations completely formed, and I only have some territories in caribbean and 1 territory in USA. I chose exploration and expansion ideas so I shouldn't be left behind like that.

This is some kind of error in the game? Some unbalanced game configuration? This is really anoying me because I just can't compete against Spain, they are too strong and any atack is useless! (I've PU with France, but is useless, France is very weak).

Thanks!

It's a historical game, Spain kicked limey ass for a long time

How is France weak?
Castile and Spain get an additional Colonist from National Ideas (and Castile also +25 Settler Growth from Ambition though that comes late and is partly equalized by GB's +20 Settlers) which early game can make a big difference.

In addition Castile/Spain can get additional Settler Growth from mission rewards.

Also Castile (and Portugal) are much closer to America than England (unless you conquer Iceland) so they can start colonizing earlier.

As colonial England/Great Britain you best concentrate where Spain is not (North America or Africa->India/Indochina/Indonesia) to get more money and deal with Spain later (you get Colonial Nations for free when you annex the overlord, let Spain colonize for you). With more money you can also gift/subsidize France (and/or build buildings for him) to make him much stronger .
The game's not supposed to be "balanced". Spain were everywhere in actual history, so that playing out in the game is as it's supposed to be. And the ideas you chose aren't particularly pertinent to your colonial success. Aside from having extra colonists in their national ideas, Spain also would have started colonising before you (which is a pretty significant factor when it comes to who has the most colonies), since they would've simply been in range of colonisable provinces much earlier than you would've.

France aren't supposed to be weak either, so what have you done to make that happen? If you're playing as England and get the French PU then you should be able to win a war against anybody on the continent fairly easily. French armies are pretty decent.
Can't imagine what wen't wrong if u have France in PU. The moment u got it game should be a steamroll for u.
to be fair though, if you get france under pu from the start... hell even if u dont, u can pwn castille n portugal before they get anything colonized.

If you rush colonization, stay catholic and get colonial range advisor + techs. you can colonize the iberian island/africa fast enough to get into south america. Once you colonize 5 territories n form a nation. spain n portugal wont bother.
When I rush colonization for america vs spain/portugal. The AI ends up going africa route.
Even if they get 1-5 colonies up. long as my nation is formed before, they wont continue.

Not really. The war against France is very difficult. Even when you forced them into the PU, you have to watch out for Burgundy or any other powerful country that could support France´s independence.
Burgundy dies half of the time.

Yes really. The war as Britain Vs France difficult? Unless you were unlucky and they started with some very big boy allies, even then it's manageable.
Maybe you'll need few loans that's it.
You can go an extra step (depending on rivals), ally Aragon/castille, the pope, Brittany, Burgundy (very rarely not rivals), Poland, austria.
The French AI will be left with hardly anyone wanting an alliance with them, since when you rival eachother it will take a while for them to get relations up with those or other further countries.
That means you have less people to deal with in a war Vs France, making it almost a 1v1.

Burgundy powerful???
If anyone does support you just hit them before they hit you with France.
If you send alliances to some big people at the start that haven't rivalded you, No1 will declare. Gives you plenty of time to get France loyal.

If it was that hard, why is it that most people do it? The ones that can't, watch a guide/ask tips and then go for it. Even the person that asked this question said they got France under PU. If you can handle the PU war Vs France, you should be able to handle war Vs castille. Hitting them before royal marriage helps. You don't have to take land, money and warrep + some burn of manpower is enough to entice Aragon n marocco to war them. The province you should take is the island near Africa actually. Potentially you can take a province in Iberia to never allow the formation of spain. Then you wouldbe the closest with only portugal as a possible competitor.

I forced France in the PU without loans. I just focused on the Northern part of France. Castile took the South and Austria the West. I had zero problems after the war. I remained calm due to the possibility of a coalition war.

I had a start when I was able to ally Burgundy. Together with them and Castile I tried to destroy France. It was a disaster. Castile was totally occupied by France and the Burgundian army was unable to take some major provinces in France. I restarted and I couldn´t ally Burgundy. Burgundy had declared war on France before the event "Surrender of Maine" happened. Burgundy was able to conquer all of France. Alone. Without any allies. Just with their vassals. I thought to myself: Are you kidding me?

I won a war against Castile. France occupied Aragon and I marched down to their capital. I took Gibraltar and a colony from them and Porto from Portugal. I didn´t pay attention to a province that could prevent them from forming Spain.
My latest game had two extremely rare things: Castile and Aragon got wiped early and so did the Muscovites.

Spanish colonial nations don't mean **** if you can siege down Madrid.

Just concentrate on your own game, look for opportunities to make yourself stronger, and you will be fine.
Game based on history. Spain between 1492 and 1588, if not a superpower, was close to it. EU4 represents this golden age of Spain's history pretty well. Even after 1588, Spain remained a major player for many, many years.

Tip: when you start a war, check the 'treaty' in advance. E.g. at the start of the maine war I checked how much AE and with whom' I'd get it.
That way I know who i need to improve relations during the war, in the case of britain: port/spain/austria/denm (who ever isnt my rival/allied and will be mad) n some other hre princes but who cares about them.
Also, I let the french/enemies attack me and just transport army on the fort. Then just steam roll france.
Once thats done I wait for burgundy or castille/aragon to declare on france even if im at 100%.
I pu them + I take all of france's money, why make them broke? they wont build army for a long time, causes them more loyal.
Rest of score remove some cores from me or what not.
Now you will inherit france's wars.
Now you're in a defensive war vs whoever attacked france, sometimes can be more than one country.
This/these being a defensive war/s, you can call in any ally you have.
So what now? If you're facing spain/aragon you're in luck. Portugal is probably your ally, so he will either help you win or get destroyed. Ideally portugal gets destroy goes broke and then u make aragon/castille broke. You don't have to take territory, mainly money + war rep. Enough to cause the other nation or even marocco to attack.
In the case of burgundy do the same. Don't war in hope for the burgundy event. You don't gain anything from it, you only help france. No need to help france.

Alot of these rules/steps can be applied when you play other nations. Making them vassal etc to gain defensive wars/less coalitions etc.
I've seen /known many that improve relations late, whilst the diplomats arent doing anything important during the war.
I undestood everything you guys said in this topic here, but I still thinks that Castille/Aragon/Spain is extremely unbalanced. It isn't just a "historical" game... I started a new game with England/UK and it's fooking 1503 and Castille already have a colonial nation (Castillian West Indies) and is almost forming the second one in Mexico, New Spain. Really, guys? This is not a fair game...
by 1550, Spain will have dominated all of America at this rate. It's a little disheartening to play with a colonial country and always have Spain dominating everything in absolutely ALL GAMES.
