Is it because of being a memebr of hre or there is something else?, my campaign is at puase waiting for my savior for an answer : (

I believe you need to be Asian to claim the empire of China, whilst you need to be European to join the HRE.

So whilst it's probably possible, it's the sort of convoluted thing involving culture shifting and moving capital between continents that only extremely advanced players would even attempt.

(I haven't heard of this being done, but I have seen someone on Reddit boasting about being both the Emperor of the HRE and Japanese Shogun at the same time and having the entire world as a vassal swarm whilst being only a tiny nation himself - Bosnia or Ragusa or something like that)

To become Holy Roman Emperor you have to be Catholic/Protestant/any Christian, depending on the League War outcome, be a monarchy with male ruler (unless Pragmatic Sanction) and have your capital in Europe.
Once you passed Erbkaisertum you can freely change religion/government type and stay Emperor (there are some rare cases in which you lose Emperorship or the HRE even disbands itself).

To become Emperor of China (and get the Take Mandate CB) you have to be of Eastern of Pagan religion.
There is no (or at least there used to be no) geographical restriction. I just for fun ended my Sunset Invasion game with Nahuatl Aztecs with becoming EoC (in 1.25 or so).
Once you are EoC you can freely change your religion and stay EoC.

I don't know what happens to HRE members which convert away from Christianity but as a hereditary Emperor you can convert to some Eastern or Pagan religion and become EoC.

Someday I want to do a "be Holy Roman Emperor and Emperor of China as Roman Empire" game.

yes you can. first, you MUST play daimyo because you need shinto.
(if you don't like japan, instead use custom nation. you just need shinto)
and you must unite japan because if you take EoC from ming, you will lost shogun gov.

take EoC and keep expansion for west. if you contact the west nation and open institutions for colonialism, its trigger nanban trade event.

clear nanban trade event and over 30 years, you got another event the spread of christianity.
if you successfully end the spread of christianity, you will get the decisions.

Do you actually need Shinto/events though? Surely you could just convert through the old fashioned rebel method too, no?

moving the HRE to Asia can be done as HRE emperor and form Manchu, as it moves your capital but doesnt remove you from HRE.
