How to use the Tumu crisis to my advantage

I’ve captured the emperor and I hold Beijing. How do I use this to my advantage?

Edit: was doing it the wrong way around didn’t release you had to capture the emperor first then take Beijing

What do you mean? If you caught the emperor and then occupied Beijing you should've instantly occupied the whole of northern China. Is that not already using it to your advantage? It makes getting a good peace deal much easier!

I have done it twice and i don't have the north occupied just beijing

I was testing this the other day and I also don’t know what is supposed to happen because I got the initial event that starts the whole chain of events after when you declare the war. Then I fought a battle against the Ming army that had the ruler leading and stack wiped it giving me the event of capturing the emperor and giving my country extra siege and morale bonuses and then proceeded to occupy Beijing. But after that nothing happened. I was made to believe that immediately after the previous events happened and you occupied Beijing it was supposed to have you control all of the North China region via occupation but that did not happen?

Is there something I and clearly others are missing?

Not that it actually matters too much for my actual Oirat campaign I started afterward since I own all of Manchuria, most of Central Asia and have conquered all of North China anyway. But I was testing out this event chain to see what happens and how to force it to happen but couldn’t get too far into it unfortunately.
