Get ideas that let you blob out fast. Ally 1 or 2 Europeans. If you can get like Portual and England you'll be in great shape. and they won't focus too much on South America early on compared to Castille. France is ok too, but it's iffy what they'll do with Castille in terms of PU's.
Bottle up Central America, means they need to come by sea, which means you have more control.
In the above campaign i got a little lucky with the Aragon eating Castille thing, and Scotland eating England. but still went pretty normally otherwise. I might have infact been the cause of those changes by controling so much trade.
Dude. That was from so many patches ago. You have to play the game all over again and then post a picture of you being awesome instead of showing what you all ready had in your steam library from a while ago.
Lol
Its been a long while since i played em - basically just
Conquer everything asap
Start colonizing yourself to northeastern coast
Reform once they border you
...
Profit
A already mentioned you dont need to tech up once you are stronger than all your neighbours as reforming gives you 70% of european tech. Spend all points for goldmines and other good provinces + build as much stuff as possible to get a good economy + bigger Manpower. Tho always save to about 1.5k points before you start spending since you want to tech up as soon as you reformed (you keep all points above the 999 limit until the month runs out)
The only ideas you need are pretty much those for colonizing and military ones.
