Co-belligerent question
I want to conquer Hamburg but I don't want the Emperor to defend them, so I will DOW their only ally Castile. So if i make Hamburg co-belligerent to avoid double cost, will the emperor still defend them even though he isnt an actual ally?

Mmm, i think that the emperor can't intervene but i wouldn't gurantee that interaction.
Co-belligerent sometimes works in mysterious ways ;) (well it doesn't but there are just so many different cases)

yeah lol, really dont want to experiment and maybe break an ironman game by making my emperor ally become an enemy. But Hamburg's 25 dev is just too high to swalllow doubled smh

well i'd put it at 90% that they can't intevene but the risk is still ther so its up to u ;)

If you select them as co-belligerent Emperor will join, unless he's very busy elsewhere, e.g. losing war against Ottoblob or Polandball, or BBB.

If wouldn't say so... It isn't an attack on hamburg, it's an attack on castile. If Michaelus however, has experience in this matter i would be quick to redraw my words.

Any nation set as co-belligerent will call its allies, in this case emperor will be involved

That is just not true. The call to arms via co belligerent is very different than a defensive call to arms via a direct attack!
The AI actually has to CtA every of their allies seperatly and sometimes takes considerable amount of time to do so. This is why i think in OPs case the emporer should be called in but probably wouldn't.

It is actually the same. But let's have OP try and tell.

co belligerizing is basically a way of declaring war on multiple people at once. Meaning you will have to fight anyone who would join each of their call to arms.

It's not the same. At least for the case of the emperor getting to call in his allies i can gurantee this in 1.18.2. This exact thing just came up a few days ago...
I had troops on the borders of every ally of the emperor but days after DoW they weren't called in so i moved my troops just to notice that they got called in 2-5 month late.

A normal defensive CtA will be accepted in 1 day, a call to arms declared on a coalition is instant for all coalition members. There are quite a few quirks in the CtA system...

they probably weren´t called in the war for other reasons. most likely because they were enemies in another war or something similar. if you declare someone co-belligerent then they will call in their allies. considering that hamburg most likely is a free city they are going to call the emporer and his allies to assist him(the emporer is always called into attacks on free cities to defend them)

My point was that CtA works different in different situations... and no they were not at war with anyone since, u know i ate everyone they could go to war with.

OPs question is if Austria will get a "defend the empire/FC" CtA if hamburg is a co-beliigerent.
And io suspect they won't because it needs to be programmed in and pdx probably overlooked this.

The emperor DID NOT defend...

But I stil dont know if they got the Call to Arms ... maybe the co-belligerence never triggered the CtA, or maybe it did trigger but the Emperor declined since I'm also their ally. Should there have been an alert-message informing me that the emperor ignored the CtA if such occurred? Question still unresolved lol...
