Too many stack wipes in 1.19?

Is it just me or since the last patch, it became a lot more frequent that armies get stack wiped? Happens often with armies just slightly smaller than the opposing force, in a situation where before they'd just retreat. Didn't find anything about that in the patch notes either...

Playing Leinster - Ally Scotland (Nice) = Preps to kill a english doomstack while they have no manpower = Scotland sieges vassal Ulster, gets stuck & loses 20k men in 1 wipe presumably getting lost because they can't go back over the straight (because england owns it with boats and the vassal, wp england well-played indeed)

Eventually i have to bite the bullet, invite all my rival irishmen into a war then sumbit to vassalship to my domineering english neighbour just to get them off my back by entagling them in stupid additional wars in the hopes of inflaming more rebellions later.
