Upon creation, the new Client state can be configured. You can choose the name, either Republic or Monarchy, map color, shield graphics etc. The Client state will always share the religion of the overlord not the religion of the province. The culture however will be the culture of the province select as the capital city.
Adjacent provinces to the new capital city, can be added by pressing the same client state button on the province window. Client states get -25% to Liberty Desire and as much easier than a subject or March to grow. You can ALSO turn a Client State into a March giving it a further -15% Liberty Desire; for a total of 40, and giving gthe standard bonuses a March receives and restriction on Annexation and the penalty to relations for switching back to a normal vassal that can be annexed.
Client states will always have the same idea groups as shown in this link: http://www.eu4wiki.com/Client_state
That link also contains all information concerning Client states.
I wish they were available sooner for Merchant Republics =)
