EU4 tab isn't loading, but game is.

So I hit "play" for EU4 on Steam for the first time, and the launcher appears with news about the Denmark Update and all that. I start the game, and I immediately start hearing the music, but I don't see anything other than my screensaver except with black strips of nothingness on the side of my screen. I checked my task manager, and while EU4 was taking up a lot of CPU and memory, it wasn't killing my computer. I tried clicking around the glitched EU4 tab, and occasionally found buttons that made noises, but I couldn't really do anything. I have tried this multiple times over the past few days, but it has always done the same thing. Send help, I am about as hopeless as Albania right now with this game.

I think I'm having a similar problem. Music is playing, but each time I click on the EUIV icon on the task bar, the screen goes black for a few seconds, then it minimizes and brings me right back to my desktop. I'm not running any mods either. Hopefully they fix this soon.

edit: I just tried running it in windowed mode instead of full screen, and it worked fine. I'm going to try switching it back to full screen to see if it works. If not, I guess I'll just run it in windowed mode until they fix the bug.

edit #2: Switched it back to full screen, and it works fine now.

I'm not completely sure that I understand your problem, but I'd give this a try:

Delete your personal EU4 directory (see step 3a below).

If that doesn't fix the problem try a clean reinstall, i.e. all of the following and in that order:
0) unsubscribe from all mods
1) delete the game's local content in Steam (i.e. deinstall the game)
2) exit Steam
3a) delete your personal EU4 directory -- its path depends on the OS:
(Note: You might want to make a backup of the local savegames in there before doing that!)
- [Windows] \Users\<username>\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\
- [macOS] /Users/<username>/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Europa Universalis IV/
- [GNU/Linux] /home/<username>/.local/share/Paradox\ Interactive/Europa\ Universalis\ IV/
3b) delete your EU4 Steam directory -- its path depends on the OS:
- [Windows 64bit] C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Europa Universalis IV\
- [Windows 32bit] C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Europa Universalis IV\
- [macOS] /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Europa Universalis IV/ (hidden on macOS 10.7+; this[www.macworld.com] might be helpful)
- [GNU/Linux] /home/<username>/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Europa\ Universalis\ IV/
4) restart Steam
5) reinstall the game
6) verify the game
