How am I supposed to get independence?
I'm currently playing as Holland trying to get the achievement for forming the Netherlands because the wiki suggested Holland, but it's impossible to win an independence war. Burgundy is way more powerful than I could ever hope to be, so I can't declare an independence war unless I have allies. But because I'm a Junior Partner, I can't get any allies unless I'm in an independnce war. And if I'm in a war, I can't get any allies because of that stupid -1000 penalty to asking for an alliance while in a war. So how am I supposed to get independence? I have no idea what I'm supposed to do. The only DLCs I have are Art of War and Common Sense, and I need Conquest of Paradise to get the ability to ask for independence support because of Paradox's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC policy and I don't have any money. So am I just never able to get independence?

bunch of loans and mercs; your income will even it out. you don't need a ton of war score unless you want to take antwerp ( you should). pop a couple forts, preferably a capital or two and should be well on your way.

obviously timing is key,

Are you sure? The most money I could make was 2 ducats monthly. I don't think that will be enough to cover the monthly payment for a bunch of loans.

Do it with Brabant, should be easier. The EU4 wiki is not that reliable.

Get Austria and France to support you and let them do all the fighting

Also you are going to want to take Utrecht and Friesland early before they join a trade republic, vassalize them maybe even to avoid AE

Personally I like to take Gwent in flanders instead so that I can fabricate claims against burgandy after the war. Otherwise you will need to rely too much on France to get you land.

This was earlier on, like I said France and Austria supported my freedom and then Austria left alliance after war. I then used France to take most of Burgandy and England but then they turned on me so I allied Spain and took France.

Like I said, I can't get either of them to support me. I don't have the dlc required to ask for independence support. I only have Art of War and Common Sense.

no sure how it works without dlc but try to declare independence while Burgundy is at war with France or Austria

Oh damn, sorry did not read that. I guess would just have to wait and hope Burgandy starts to collapse

Without the right DLC, it will be quite hard.

Luckily for you, Burgundy is a country with some poweful enemies.

Burgundy will count your armies on her side when pondering for war.
Of course, never do anything to help in her wars, the more her armies are crushed, the better for you.
Dont even defend your provinces if an enemy is sieging them, just move your armies to safety if possible
With some luck, a winning enemy could force Burgundy to release you.

Otherwise, it is just a metter of waiting for the right moment to declare (can be short, long...or never)
In the meanwhile, develop your provinces, build your armies and stay ready

If there is an opening, declare and send everything, dont hesitate on mercs and loans

And hope Burgundy doesnt get inherited by an even more powerful overlord ;D

Now, why inflict that to yourself when there is like 200 non-subject nations to choose from at the start...

you need conquest of paradise to support independence

gotta think long term. get independence, grab antwerp and you have a good amount of trade power. your income will come around.

i go for antwerp solely for the trade power and the resulting income. gwent for fabrications isnt a bad route either, suppose it comes down to priorities. as holland i really don't focus too much on expanding in europe, i go for trade so colonial nations is my focus. ill grab what would become the netherlands, and really not much else.

improve relations with enemies of burgundy (rivals and any war leader), hide your amies very very far away and lower maintenance
