How do I turn Papal state Protestant/Reformed?

The Papal governemnt type will not allow you to switch, you may be able to incite protesant rebels to revolt in your lands so that they switch your lands to protestant but im not sure if they can change the state religon, ive never tried it before.

sorry u cant all you get when protostant rebels enforce demands its just -1 stability and not convert you, so the only way to do that is get rid of papacy government but that is hard, so no impossible.

I think you can still convert yourself by bankruptcy being OPM with desired religion in cap.
Another way is to vassalize pope, force convert and then swap to pope.
Also maybe demanding force conversion if you have 100 warscore also works.

florryworry did a stream which is available on youtube where he went atheist as pope. he explains the process thoroughly in a video as well. the whole "going bankrupt" thing is indeed the key. look it up!

I think conquering all of their provinces, converting them to protestant/reformed and then releasing them as a vassal would work.

Pope can only turn heathen relligion through rebel demands if 50% or more of the country turned that one religion. other than that needs to be done with the subject interaction or, yes, OPM bankruptcy

@firestar587 So should be Otto - Papal alliance yet it happens. I actually had Papal State in one game which was reformed. Dunno if it was a bug because he was a vassal of reformed Netherlands or maybe he respawned in reformed province when he was eaten by Tuscany. He was still shown in a Holy See tab yet his every value was switched to "Member State"

You have to form another country, such as Shan or Arabia and then protestant rebels can force you to convert.
