This can change
If the protestant side wins the league war, then, emperor has to be protestant.
If peace of Westphalia happens, then, emperor can be of either religions.
Oh I see, so if I choose to become Protestant I can't be emperor until my league wins?
You get a bonus to diplo reputation, stability, 15% tax increase, man power, legitimacy and a bonus to prestige. These are actually pretty good but maybe the beneifts are better if the country you are playing is expanding overseas.
As Austria i'll have to expand into Italy anyway, aka, taking land form the Papal States which basically means I won'tbe Curia controller well ever so it's bonuses are gone for me
Protestants on the other hand serve no Pope, there is no risk of excommunication and you get some very good buffs, specifically Discipline, Morale and Manpower recovery
Very true
To me, as Austria it just seems much more beneficial to just become Protestant
If you're lucky you can also end up with the Ottomans and the French in the Protestant League
