Buy El Dorado. It is a must have DLC when playing Mayan, Inti or Nahuatl religions.

I have played a lot of games with all three of those powerful religions.

1. Mayan gives the best bonuses. It is also the easiest to get through the required 5 religious reforms. This game was a custom Mayan nation starting in New Orleans:

2. Inti is the second best. It is also not all that difficult to get through the reforms. This area has the HUGE advantage in that you have a lot of time ot conquer neighbors before the Euros arrive. It has the disadvantage in that Institutions are a giant pain to spread for the same reason.

3. Aztec is the single most powerful of the Mexican nations. But the Nahuatl doom counter is really hard to control, and it will likely take you several restarts to figure it out. Also, taking 5 vassals and losing them 5 times can be daunting. It also has the weakest set of religious reform bonuses.

Note that all three of these achievements were done on previous game versions.

How is Nahuatl the weakest?
Anyway, be a cool guy and don't start with Aztecs (unless you want the achievement). Google how to play as Nahuatl Caddo. You will have better military than Prussia.

I disagree on Nahuatl, i think Nahuatl is not only the strongest religion in the mesoamericas but all together in the game. -2 natianal unrest, +10 morale it doesnt get any beter than that. I just finished Sunset invasion in 1.22 and stayed Nahuatl. Doom is actually not that hard to manage, but you need to use that option to kill one ruler from vassals every 5 year for on average -10 doom reduction. You have 7 neighbours and even if few gets eaten by Mayan they will get released soon due to their reforming process. You also get -5% discipline, coloniest and other perks when reforming.

Inti is very enjoyable game, finished Sun god few years ago instanely rich with something like 150k gold. Much much easier achievement than sunset invasion.

Religious reforms:

All receive:
+1 Colonist

Inti:
+10% Manpower Recovery Speed
+10% Morale
+ 0.5 Yearly devotoin and legitimacy
-10% core creation cost

Mayan:
-10% Land Maintenance
-2 Unrest
+10% Infantry Combat
-20% Core Creation Cost

Nahuatl:
-.05 Monthly War Exhaustion
+1 Diplomatic Relations
+5% Discilpline
-20% Stability Cost Modifier

You can decide. But if you plan to blob, then the Mayan religious reforms are hands down the best.

Nation Bonus:
Inti: +1 Tolerance of the True Faith and -.05 Monthly Autonomy
Mayan: +1 Tolerance of the True Faith and +1 Advisor
Nahuatl: -2 Unrest and +10% Morale

Nahuatl is all about war. Mayan is all about reducing unrest and increasing economy. Inti is more balanced.

And the Mayan reform process is by far the easiest to get through, especially for a new player. All you have to do is capture 20 provinces 5 times. You have practically no unrest during the process if you capture/convert Mayan provinces to get to the 20 each time.

It was a while ago, but I remember having over 100 heavy ships by the end of my New Orleans run. The European nation fleets were easily sunk before they could land any troops.

I might also add that the religious reforming penalty for each religion is different:

1. Mayan - You simply lose provinces to drop down to 10 + 2*(number of reforms passed). The only thing you really have to do is wait out the peace timer.
2. Inti - Lose all authority and a pretender arises. You must kill the pretender and then get authority back to 100.
3. Nahuatl - doom increases by 25, lose 1 stability, and all vassals are released. You cannot grow your nation fast since doom can easily kill you until all reforms are passed.

Mayan is incredibly easy to get through the 5 reforms.

Aztecs are also easier to reform than Inca. All you have to do is to conquer small nations and vassalize them while with Inca you have to face 40k civil war every time you reform. Pick for yourself, but i went for another Inca run without any particular goal or achivement in mind and those 40k rebels broke me enough that i resorted to strategic bankruptcy. Now that i reformed, have institutions and tech i see nobody can realistically stop me now but up to this point things are easier with Aztecs.

Inti could actually be the most difficult reform path because of the pretender spawn causing you to go into debt hiring mercs to kill it. Of course, that is assuming you have figured out how to control doom with Nahuatl, which is even more deadly if you fail.

The main issue with Mayan is that, even though it is the easiest and quickest to reform plus it has the best set of religious reform bonuses, there is no achievement for them. Therefore, it is the least played of the 3 powerful mesoamerican religions.

And that is the main reason why I did the custom nation achievement with Mayan. It easily showed me the great power of that religion. I colonized and conquered 100% of both Americas by 1765. The 20% core reduction cost alone is HUGE!

Yes, 20% core reduction cost is big and that is a big plus of Mayan countries. All in all all three countries are extremely powerful and i have Inca run going on now where it is around 1575 and i am just about to steamroll over Aztecs and Mayas, grabbed 12 provinces from England and see nobody that could challenge me.

I might go for "no pirates in my pacific" or for Prester John, only with Inca. Lol. This will not be an actual achivement, but i am sick of playing for achivements sake.

I once played a Mayan native nation just to see how it plays. My goal was to conquer North America, which tuned out to be pretty fun. I don't recall that I actually finished that run, though.

I do remember having a good time smashing Portugal, who landed at Rio Grande.
