is it worth annexing the papal state?
instead of having them as a vassal? i'm a catholic btw. i guess i can take advantage of the subjecation of papacy.

No, you get a massive penalty if you vassalize or conquer Rome (unless you are Italy).

Turn protestant or reformed and then vassalise/annex.

Annexing them gives you a -10 yearly papal influence and -1 diplomatic reputation. Subjugating them gives you -2 diplomatic reputation. There is really no advantage unless you are Italy or plan to become Italy.

Imo unless you have outrageously high diplo rep you dont mind sacrificing for 200+ constant papal relation, its not worth it.
