Third Rome DLC - needed?
Hello,

I wanted to ask what some may think a strange question. But in the era of multiple DLC packs being released for games like EUIV, I wanted to ask if the most recent addition is required to enjoy the EU experience to the full or can it be left alone.

Many thanks.

Grant.

tinisyo,

Thank you for replying.

See, I've read earlier comments where players alledge that Paradox balances the game in favour of those who own the latest DLC. I simply wanted to get an opinion, so thank you again.

Grant.

people are also really stupid.

The dlcs are balanced around multiplayer. The base game is balanced around single player.

a lot of dlc features have little impact on single player experience beyond some small tweaks or more complexity but can be complete meta game-changers in multiplayer.

Yeah, and I'm probably stupid for paying attention top stupid people, right? lol. I thought it was a silly question.

Thank you, guys!

You can always roll back an update or prevent updates. I don't get what the whole issue is about; it's not like Paradox are forcing you to play with the patch that goes with the new DLC or that each build has game breaking issues. They have made it very easy to go back to a stage where the DLC does not affect you at all.

nah, it's fine to ask, it just really grinds my gears when newbies who barely know how to play in Europe try to give people advice on "essential" dlcs or how this section or that is broken because it doesn't play like it does in Europe.

warrented some of this confusion though comes from the fact that EU4 has evolved A LOT in the last year and half, which some people are having trouble adapting to the changes going from a shallow base game that required no thought or strategy and needed dlcs to give it depth, to a deceptively complex and deep strategy base game, that people are having trouble adjusting to when the dlcs pile even more mechanics on top.

DLCs are meant to be purcahsed ala carte, be cause it adds something you want or enhances a playstyle you enjoy. You should generally never own all the dlcs unless you are a fanatic who simply cannot get enough of the game and just want more and more and more.

it gives Russia some attention, and makes them a bit more interesting to play. the orthodox religion becomes more interesting as well

I really appreciate your input, guys. Thank you.

However, Plato, I have no "issue". I was just wondering how important the latest DLC was to the whole EUIV experience.

Hey the grat thing about it... it's OPTIONAL
Rensi Jul 12, 2017 @ 9:40am
It's not "necessary" per se, however it gives some flavour to Russia and Orthodox nations. AI Russia benefits from its features as well, which somewhat helps the lately weak Russia phenomenon in most games. Not that it matters much, it's still eaten up between Poland, Denmark and Ottomans, but hey, it actually manages to colonize Siberia at least.

Also, it's always fun to see people with level 0 private profiles coming and calling others "newbies" and "stupid" for asking questions.

Sorry, I didn't mean you had an issue. I thought your post was stemming from the 'issue' others were making.

My apologies, Plato.
