English Civil War
This is my first time playing as england and I was wondering if the Republican dictator was worth it despite his amazing stats. I've had no trouble with the English Monarchy type so far, is it worth it to switch?

Republican dictatorship is a temporary government which lasts for the life of a single ruler. After that, it will either become a monarchy (if republican tradition is low) or a republic (if republican tradition is high).

However, when you win the civil war for the parliamentarians you will have a special event with a choice to become a constitutional monarchy or constitutional republic. Since constitutional monarchy is pretty much an upgraded version of the English monarchy, it's well worth it regardless.

Winning for the royalists will turn England into an absolute monarchy, which is also a very strong choice but you lose the parliament mechanics.

Ah, so the dictatorship is temporary. I thought it would become a hereditary dictatorship or result in some weird english republic, though I'm not very familiar with republics since they are not that common of a government type outside of Italy and the HRE. To clarifiy, the republic will have elections and republican suffrage etc, however I'll lose access to things like PU's correct? Because I currently have a PU over France because of the Ceding of Maine event and wouldn't like to lose it due to a misunderstanding of mechanics, would I have to go constitutional monarchy to maintain my PU?
