Don't ally granada and keep attacking your other magreb neighbours, eventually you will border mamluks, set them as a rival and ally the ottomans

DoW Portugal if they haven't allied castile and try to ally aragon, and attack when ceuta's fort is mothballed

The last time I played Morocco was a couple of years ago but I avoided crossing the straight into Iberia and took over Africa instead. The top priority was taking Africa back from Portugal and then from there I ignore the Europeans, including Grenada, and went South to conquer the Mali. Expansion ideas can help with filling in some of the gaps in the region to help expand your borders against new countries.

If you are dead set on invading Europe I would suggest supporting the independence of Aragon against Castille, possibly with a French, British, Austrian, or Ottoman ally depending on how diplomacy rolls that game. There is a gold mine in the center of Iberia so if you do go into that region make sure to grab the gold.

Your big enemy is going to be the Ottomans. They will completely outclass you in every aspect so you really don't want them as an enemy. However, you can make them powerful allies if you rival at least one of the same people they are rivaled with.

If the Ottomans go straight for the Mamluks then you are going to have a bad time but it's not impossible. If you reach their borders, or they reach yours, just make sure to make relations with them as high as possible and try to make sure they are your allies. If they are your enemy you likely won't last very long unless you have already conquered West-Central Africa.

If you find yourself against the Ottomans or not able to secure a strong European ally, don't fret! Military ideas, like Quality, Offense, Defense, and Quantity, can make you powerful enough for Europeans to leave you alone. You will likely want to pick up several military ideas to stay safe, even if you do secure a powerful ally.

Funny thing in my games, they usually take back their provinces in Africa and become pretty big. But the crazy part, in my current Russia game, they managed to become Portugal lol

I once did a morocco campaign and Portugal guaranteed granada ,
Castille attacks granada , destroyes Portugal and i could immediately pick up The portuguese leftovers .

Never seen that before .
Sometimes you can be lucky :)

Very interesting about AI for Morocco taking over Portugal. I see Castille is tiny so that makes sense there was no one left to keep Morocco in check since Aragon was gobbling up Castille.

the most I have seen is Morocco taking all Africa possessions from Portugal and at time Algrave.

Nice necro, there was nothing to add anymore.

In my last two single player games Morocco as AI managed to crush Portugal as well. It survieved until end game but had a hard stand against Aragon and Castille.

This is one truly tricky campaign. It´s never a sure thing what ends up happening. But it´s one of the truly fun games to play :)

Everything depends on Castille and what he ends up Rivaling or Allying. If he rival Aragon and France you should improve with Aragon and rival Castille. 99% of the times you will get your alliance and together with Aragon and Naples you will win easy :)

But watch so you don´t ally Tunis or Tlemcen and Aragon have them as rival....... Never ever Ally Granada! ^^

Improve with Ottoblobs and Mamluks all the time your diplomats don't have anything else to do.

If castile rivals England and Allies France you just wait for the war France will declare on England to take the last pieces of land that bring Portugal in to defend England. Castille will be at war with Portugal and you have your chance to run Portugal over. To win this war and beginning to eat their lands(beside Ceuta) you have to build over your Naval force limit. If you´re in control over the waters they pretty much can´t beat you 1vs1 :)

You can forcevassalise Tlemcen in your first war. So if they are not allied to anyone that's easy clay.
It is better to diplo-annex Maghreb nations due to the +50 foreign core creation cost. Waste of admin points otherwise.

What really worked for me was no-cb declare on Timbuktu and build your power in west africa, this way you don't have to worry about the 50 percent extra core creation cost in maghreb. Note: If you vassalize them you still have to pay 50 percent extra diplopoints for annexing. West Africa is really easy to take over with your better tech and most of it is already Sunni
