Ternate/Tidore really needs to get nerfed in MP games.
You can't see them until it's too late and they're one of the few countries who can completly shroud itself for the first ~100 years. They either make themselves immune to ae for about 100 years while expanding which is kinda easy to counter if a player is in the region or play it the safe way.

The Issue is that most Ternate/Tidore Player doesnt't parcipate in anything at all for the first ~150-200years. They build up their economy which will end at around ~2k dev at 1600. Trade income/production and tax at about 50 ducats x3 at this time with only 2 trade nodes, with all 3 it will be at about 300+ ducats. They only need to control 2 max 3 tradenodes to get the same income or even more than european ones but can deny institution spread to other countries with ease.

And that's the real issue there you can kinda easy control 2 of the most valuable trade nodes until 16xx(if player controlled otherwise genoa is better for sure) get global trade spawn in your node with ease and even force europe countries to develope provinces.(genoa trade node has no chance at at all to spawn global trade if someone with a bit of knowledge playes as Tidore/Ternate and cololalism spawn before is also easy to grab)

If one of those nations are player controlled it's just complete bs, because the grow is so fast it's not even fun.

I tried it for a sp game and I was at 137 total income in 1542.(without the malacca trade node to deny institution spawn for others) All institutions where embraced a manifactory was build in every single province.(even if it's not worth it.)

In the end until 1600 I was at 2,2k development and 282 income with 3 trade nodes(+alaskas minor gain^^) without fighting anyone except the few states in the malacca trade node.

From this point on you just have to wait for the dip cb and roll over anything with your superiour tech+ideas.(I did max all possible ideas while beeing ahead of time +180% on everything at this point thanks to +3 advisors and 6-7 colonies at the same time...^^)

Don't get me wrong on sp you would play completly different but on mp I am rather sure that this two nations are the most overpowered ones right now and you just can't counter them at all besides with an alliance of 2-3 players.

Yeah, Ternate/Tidore is really up there in the "secretly powerful" nations, like Caddo.

Caddo is kinda about exploiting and luck this not so much because it works like everytime. :p
