Europa Universalis IV

Europa Universalis IV

Common ''Paradox Games won't launch'' problem
So i've been playing fine, love the game. Was playing at a friend's house for a week, went back to my house, downloaded it onto my laptop, download is fine, i go to start it up, and it does nothing. At all. ''preparing to launch -> Running -> Syncing -> nothing''.

I go on a whole bunch of forums on different places with people with a similar/same problem and they say wait it out for the next patch. I tried everything, absolutly everything. Re-downloaded all the C++ and instructions given by Fedaykin in his thread, install, nothing will do it.

Here comes a twist, Ck2 does'nt work either. Paradox games seem to just not want to work. (Ck2 was already downloaded and played on my laptop)

Anyone wants to be my Hero? Please. halp, been struggling on this for about 6 hours now...

Windows 10, if you have no answers I won't hold it against you. Really seems like it's not a bug that is so rare and most people deal with it by just waiting for the next patch, i'm gonna do that.

I am trying the most common fixes, but I am running out of options here.

The fact that it is occurring with CK2 and happening at the launcher really points me to the C++ libraries.

Perhaps do you have Evolve and MSI Gaming App running or the Razor mouse software called Synapse running?

After this, I am about out of Steam (pun) I will ask a friend to review this to see if I forgot anything.
wow guys thanks i know this is old but i just encounter the same problem, im trying to host eu4 game with my friend with evolve but suddenly all my paradox game cant be played and it freak me out, have uninstall and install several times
and actually we can still play paradox games with evolve, just uncheck the game overlay under feature tab in preference setting
same problem here boots up to launcher and then nothing, HOI4,CK2 or EU4 and i don't have evolve.
Same problem, HoI4 and Stellaris wont start launcher. In HoI4 there is massage about cloud synchro and it asked if geme was plyed on other computer. Stellaris nothing It was not. I reinstalled, games, steam, c++, dirctx, NVIDIA drivers, checked, cleaned and updated Windows 10. Help please.

Exit Steam, and run eu4.exe directly as admin from
Steam\SteamApps\common\Europa Universalis IV
What errors do you get?
1) if using win 10 make sure the game setting is for some variation of windowed rather than full-screen

2) when in doubt re-start Steam after doing the delete/re-load sequence

I get no error message, is there some way to check errors or will they pop-up? In Hoi4 I get C++ library runtime erroe as normal user, stellaris does not react. no luncher or even pop-up error window.

Thank you, I tried all variations, even 640-480.
it's likely your C++ libraries. For these you can try reinstalling the libraries:

Uninstalling Visual C++ is done just like any other program on your system. The different versions and components will be listed in Programs and Features (or Add or Remove Programs for Windows XP). To uninstall Microsoft Visual C++:

Open Programs and Features from the Windows Control Panel (or Add or Remove Programs for Windows XP). An easy way to bring this up on non-Windows XP systems is to type "programs and features" in the search field at the bottom of the Start menu.

Uninstall everything that starts with "Microsoft Visual C++."

Download and install all of the following (Download one at a time):

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable (x86)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable (x64)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable (x86)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable (x64)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable (x86)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable (x64)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Update 4 Redistributable (x86 and x64)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x86 and x64)[www.microsoft.com]
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable (x86 and x64)[www.microsoft.com]

Please note that only the x86 versions will work on 32-bit systems and you should install both the x86 and x64 versions on 64-bit systems. The file names for each download are the same, so be sure to not overwrite a prior one before installing it. Download one, install it, then download the next, install it, etc.
Hi, thanks for answer, I have done it already and than added 2017 too. No effect at all:/

Not screen resolution, you need to change it from fullscreen mode to windowed or windowed/full-screen.

(click the gear icon bottom left of the launcher to reach that menu)

No its not this, luncher doesn't work:) I sorted problem anyways. Is there someone that still needs help with this?
Hello, i have a similar problem with HOI4 and EU4, i've tried everything that has been said except that when I try to run those games as admin I do get a pop-up. It roughly says (I'm french):
"the procedure entry point _strdup cannot be found in the library of dynamic links C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Hearts of Iron IV\tbb.dll."
Same message for EU4 but I can open the launcher and play stellaris or CK2 for example
Any clue on that ? :)

I have to start Paradox-games in windowed fullscreen (launcher-options). If I choose regular fullscreen this and Stellaris just crashes to desktop on startup. Very weird

The problem here is that people here can't even seem to access the launcher. It doesn't even start and nobody seems to know why exactly as a lot of the common solutions won't work :steamsad:

That sounds like broken installation. Try to Verify Integrity of Game Files.

Or are you using Linux or Mac perhaps?

Have already installed and uninstalled several times and I tried veryfing integrity a dozen times too. It's really quite the struggle that I've experienced those past days ! :(
