Higashiyama Botched

So, I'm playing through the Sengoku Jidai, doing well, already shogun and the remaining daimyos are on their way to being absorbed, when I get an event. Higashiyama culture spreading. Very nice modifiers, effectively permanent in duration. But it's expensive in cash. And I don't have that much on hand at that moment.

So, I encourage the culture spread, get the buff, go negative in ducats, then hop over to the finance window to take a loan to cover the cost.

Bam. Modifier is instantly lost.

I just took out a loan for money spent on NOTHING. Who designed this event? They botched it up big-time.

The Event is fine.
Its a chance Event sometimes you backing the Higashiyama culture takes hold and you keep teh modifier and sometimes teh people reject it as just a fad and you lose it.

Nope, it was lost during pause time, no word about 'fad'. The instant I took the loan it was gone.

Exactly the same thing happened for me too. Got the event, took a loan so I could afford the cost and on the start of the next month the modifier expired...
A few months later I got a follow-up event that promised me a temple at a reduced cost in one of my provinces but since I didn't have the Higashiyama modifier on my country, my choices were to either pay some ducats and get nothing for it or to lose some prestige.

Necro but I still have the same problem a year later and for me it does not even matter if I take a loan or not (I did not have enough money either) and i also tried embezzling, giving money through the console, etc. but the modifier still disappears a day after.
While in the event it says that it's a permanent modifier when I mouse over it looks like it isn't showing any expiration date. Could it be that the expiration date isn't set for the modifier so it automatically ends?

Higashiyama culture modifier lasts for 10 years. It was bugged in version 1.20 or earlier but should be fixed long time ago.

Are you playing with version 1.28? Any mods?

Playing with Veritas et Fortitudo in 1.28. It certainly could affect it as the mod has not integrated all of the new features of EU4

As soon as you install a mod the problem is almost always related to the mod and not something the company can fix. Also, this is not the platform to seek assistance from the makers of the game so that's 2 strikes against you. Necro-bumping a thead after almost two years would be strike three...
