Improve relations with other nations, preferably the rival's of Denmark who have the most interest in weakening Denmark and then get them to support your independance if you can. Once done, those nations supporting your independance will become your allies once you declare indepenance and continue to be your allies if you successfully win your independance.

I havn't done it in a while but I will try to write some tips for you.

What the Richnathaniel9419 said is basicly it but I also recommend going way above your fleet limit as the penalty is very low and get the max amount of land units you can but don't go over the limit as the penalty there is way more harsh.

Hopefuly a good step by step small list:

1. Raise your forces to the max of your limit.
2. Delete all ships that are not galleys and get as many of these as your money allows you.
3. Improve relations with rivals of Denmark and people who might want to support you.
4a. Declare war when you feel you can win. I recommend waiting for Denmark to be at war but sometimes it takes a long time so make your own choices.
4b. Your wargoal is to hold your capital so just make sure Stockholm isn't captured and you can get like 25 warscore points.
5c. Get as much warscore as you can and get as much as you can in the peace deal but sometimes if the war is hard just get the independence and walk out, I believe its harder now than it use to be so don't get greedy and go for that 100% warscore if it might be to hard. Once you are independent get more allies and get ready to take Scandinavia!

Again, its been a while for me and thats how I use to do and it would work but I am not a Sweden pro ;3

Have you bought Conquest of Paradise DLC or the El Dorado DLC? Because support for independence is not available without one of those.

If he just builds some heavies, he may not need to go over his naval force limit, though galley spam even over forcelimit maybe cheaper, IDK. But when I played as Byzantium, I was able to solo Kebab's navy just by building 6 heavies and deleting my two light ships and a cog or galley to keep inside my forcelimit, may not have even needed that many heavies!

You know I'm a guy who doesn't play a lot of navel action but I think its more or less the same result if you go for the force limit heavy ships or galley spam, they still get a bonus on the blatic sea so its probably not that a big difference. I don't know. :3

I managed to break out Sweden without outside help, but only once. There is no universal "how to gain independence" guide because so much depends on luck. For example for my Sweden game, the extra spawned Danish Pretender rebels broke down fort between Sweden and Denmark and Danish army was busy fighting them most of the time, so I just had to keep them from crossing the channel. Also Denmark had no big allies.

Which is basically how you can do it with every small country. Hope to be lucky so your overlord has no strong allies, to be lucky so it goes to war and loses most of manpower. Does not happen in every game. Restart and try again. Difficult and annoying, yes. But probably not impossible.

In my Byzantium game, my 6-0-6-6 fleet either sunk or scared the Kebabian navy of 25-30 ships into hiding within a month or two of the war starting without a single loss, to archive a simular result as Sweden against just Denmark and Norway with no heavies, you'd probably need at least a couple dozen galleys if not more I recon. Especially as my heavies barely got damaged if I recall correctly, only my galleys got really banged up against Kebab. But personnally, I don't think Sweden needs a navy to get independance for it's not like you can block the straight to stop Denmark from crossing into Lund from Copenhagen due to the fort at Lund. You'd only need a navy to stop Denmark from blocking you from crossing the straight if you can manage to take Lund and want to 100% Denmark to take more in the peace deal. But even then, you likely could rely on your allies naval strength to at least assist yours to do that and getting someone like Pommeriania is really benefitial for that purpose as they'll both help you at sea and hopefully serve as a destraction while you can besiege Lund. Wait, yeah, if you can distract Denmark to keep him in mainland Europe for three months with naval supremacy, you could besiege Fyn with an amphibious landing and safely hold onto all of his holdings east of Fyn, that would work.
