The game won't end at 1821
Has this happened for anyone else recently? I've never encountered this problem before, and I was wondering if the end date was changed in one of the recent updates or if this is maybe just a bug?

It's a problem? LOL, for ages all we heard were complaints that the game ENDS at 1821.

This is meant to happen now. It is like the "one more turn" in Civ games. The scenario is still only til 1821, after that the game just goes on and on with all unique flavor gone.

Yeah, you can play past 1821, there just won't be any special events of any kind and all the trade goods will eventually default to their base value when their modifier events end. That's about it.

The only reason I say that it was problematic is that I bought the game for a couple of friends of mine, and I was hoping to use 1821 as our end point. I had set it up that 1821 would be the end of all that we'd accomplished, and I wanted them to have an opportunity to look at all they'd done in their first game and really soak in that sense of accomplishment of having learned some of the in's and out's of a fairly complicated game. Instead, nothing ever even popped up at the turn of the year, and I just let it keep going in hopes that eventually the game would bring up the statistics screen and we'd be able to say that the game had met it's end and we could begin anew. Anyways...

So it does continue now? I just wanted to make sure, because I never even got any sort of prompt, nor did the stats page come up like it used to before. I'm just wanting to know whether or not it's still a choice to play after 1821, or if it just does it automatically that way now.

Couldn't you play past 1821 before? I never really did it, but I thought you could.

Either way, what seems odd is that the game never gave me any prompts or anything, it just kept going and never even acknowledged that the end of the game's scenario had occurred. Does it no longer prompt you with the stats page or something, or is this just a bug from the new updates? I tried Google searching to see if anyone else had been having this issue, and all I found was a relatively dead Reddit thread where someone mentioned that they had this similar problem (i.e. the game not prompting you about the 'end' of the game) and someone else responded that they'd heard people had been having similar issues. Additionally, I don't think it's because I was playing multiplayer either, because the person who claimed they'd been having this issue was playing in Ironman mode.

Couldn't tell ya, you could play past 1821 for as long as I've been playing, which is really only the least year or so... I think.

If it's something to do with the current version then you'd have to try asking someone who's actually gotten there recently. Or Alternatively, try starting at the latest possible date and then just x5 speed straight to the end, shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to see what happens in SP.

Oh, but one thing I can tell you that some people may not notice, you can open the Statistics screen that usually pops up at the end of the game whenever you want from the menu in-game.

So you could theoretically just do an artificial end to the game, something along the lines of "Alright, it's 18XX, the games over the events are ending, take a look at the statistics screen in the menu."

Aint quite the same sure, but better than never seeing it at least.

It's funny you mention that, because I have almost 400 hours in the game, and the friends I taught how to play showed me that, not the other way around.

My guess is that this all may be just a bug with the new updates, because I've never encountered this before. As someone mentioned earlier, this game's scenario is designed to end at 1821, so I'd imagine that Paradox wouldn't just remove the end date in the newest updates. Still, it may have been a bit anticlimactic, but my friends seems to have enjoyed their first game regardless.
