AI declaring war
Hello folks!

I was playing with a friend, we aren't really good. But everytime we play for several hours, the AI declares a war on us, which we could not win.

My question: Is there a way to forbid the AI to declare a war to a non-AI player?

No. Also getting war declared on is part of the game, I mean this is probably as clear cut learn to play as you can get.

Get some AI allies and don´t skimp on millitary even if you want to play peacefully with your friend.

Play as the Ottomans and France with your friend, ally China and whoever controls India, ROFLstomp the entire world with your unbeatable quadruple alliance?

On normal difficulty the AI has a rather clear cut way to determine if they declare war (doesn't matter if it's another AI or a player).
The AI calculates it's chances in a war on the combined strength of it's allies vs the target.
The important values are size of army, aviable manpower and military tech (or ideas that influence combat)

Indeed, it is important to build up your army as close as the force limit as you can afford, even if you only plan to colonize or sit peacefully in your corner of the world. It acts as a deterrant for the AI.

Conversely, if you get mauled in a bad war and your army is significantly reduced, the AI can and will jump on the opportunity to kick you while you're down.
Having one strong ally as an Insurance will iften discourage them

hmm, yeah without declaring war, there really isnt much TO the game. Just get some strong allies and the AI wont DoW against you. Early on France, Austria, and Poland (if they get a PU over Lithuania) are the biggies, but even a few like Bohemia, Denmark, Aragon or Castille are also strong enough to deter most nations.

I don't think they take into account Ideas that influence combat. If they would, they wouldn't declare on nations that are super strong ( One example is when I made super duper custom nation with best religion, ideas and tech).

Speak softly and carry a big stick.

Or find someone else who can carry a big stick.

EU4 is a wargame. If you can't handle the heat of getting declared on, go play Civ 5.

Bruh, in my experience AI in Civ5 tend to declare wars way more often than in EU4. I had very few times when AI has declared war on me, and it was only because in lower patches, where I was either bankrupt (had no morale and little troops) or was stronger than me 2x or even 3x more times.
