Taking HRE territory
Newbie not sure what the setup is with taking HRE property? Playing as England allied with Austria good relations but not sure what will happen if I start capturing HRE land?

Onced I have cored it does it remain HRE property as I don't want sudden surprizes with the Emperor declaring war out the blue wanting his property back?

if it is a full core the emperor can not declare a war to liberate the province, also a nice tip is if you declare a second war before grabbing provinces in the HRE in your first war you can core them with out getting unlawful territory as long as you remain at war til the cores are done. Declaring humiliation wars is great to finish HRE cores

As long as you are allied to the Emperor, they will not demand the province.

If you are not allied with the Emperor, you will be asked to return the province to the rightful owner. You get a choice whether to keep it or accept some nasty modifiers for a long time.

I cannot count the times I was coring an HRE province when my Emperor ally was voted out and the new guy demanded my 80% cored province!

As mentioned above, you can no longer be asked to give up the province once it is your core.

I will also mention that as non-HRE state owning an HRE core, pretty much every HRE nation will want it to go back inside the Empire. They will sometimes declare war on you just to make this happen.

In particular, the top goal of any coalition war declared by an HRE nation is to return HRE territory back to the original owner.

Finally, the first HRE reform gives the Emperor the right to declare war on you to take it back. If one of your rivals becomes the Emperor, expect them to do exactly this.

Ok thanks fair enough so how does one go about taking counties which are mostly HRE land that lie within the English channel trade node as that is what my aim is to increase my power in the English channel.

Your best bet is to vassalize one of the low country nations under Burgundy and feed them slowly. The HRE will hate you less because Burgundy is not an HRE nation either. You must move fast before the possible Duke of Burgundy event happens and they all go elsewhere.

You don't need to be allied (but it helps a lot) to the Emperor, you only need to have +150 relationsip for don't be asked to return unlawfull territories

If you want to conquer inside the HRE i highly recomend you to take Influence Ideas for the -%25 agressive expansion

Be aware that if you are outside the HRE it will be next to impossible to stay allied to the emperor while attacking an HRE country, as he will most likely defend it, unless he really hates that country.
