Updates about the Game
I found a stream of a press release demo for the game. It has five difficulty settings, a unit check that uses the middle mouse button. An options menu which lets you control what decides how music is played (have not gotten the best look at options and they might not all be accurate to what the release will have). Edit: Actually that music setting is already in the demo we have, but that settings menu looks so underdeveloped and the option does not seem to work properly so it might function differently in the full game.)
Okay, one of the real new options is a colorblind mode. It looks convenient as it shows four tanks with different colors that will most likely change when switched. There is also a Content Creator mode which says that the game contains licensed music normally. You can also change the text size.

There does not seem to be an character specialty after all. I think it was probably a lie on the developers part to be honest. It seemed way too late in production for them to throw in an element that affects the balance of everything. I'm only upset that they seemingly promised it when it was so unlikely. Maybe it could come in a future update. But I think Ava's power is a sign of what they chose to do instead of having characters specializing in certain units.

I also noticed that the dialogue is probably very different now or maybe they only just added dialogue in some places where I did not realize it was missing. A lot more comedic lines than before and Jackson seems more lighthearted. Not a fan of this change so far, but I guess most people who complain about this game will enjoy it more. One funny mistake in this special demo is that Scourge's name is listed as Ava. Ironically he is introduced in the same mission as Ava.

There is a new Wastelander officer introduced in an early mission and it seems like there is a lot less branching in the campaign than what it looked like in the demo. Missions have a marker to indicate the highest difficulty you cleared them on, as well as a map preview and a mission name. One of the first demo missions (a now unavailable demo) which was based around transports and water now features the new commanding officer. Originally, I believe it was no officer or a placeholder of Scourge. However, I think this is a larger map now so it is not actually the demo mission. (But since I never played the demo to completion nor replayed any missions, I need to look at someone else's gameplay I suppose.)

A lot of the demo missions were placed a lot deeper into the campaign. They were not meant to show how fast the difficulty would escalate in the full game. More than half of the demo missions are around mission 10 or later. A lot of them are stripped of story content and new commanding officers in the demo. So many commanders look related that I am not sure if they are all the same faction.

There seems to be a good variety of mission critical units and buildings who are unlikely to have any effect on multiplayer unless you can build multiplayer missions.

Faction units seem to be a bit different than expected because I always thought bikes would be on the main team (Azure Guard) but they seem to belong to the desert faction instead. Your ability to build units builds up over a long span of time (like an RTS game) unlike the demo where you could make everything after the first two missions. This makes sense for teaching the player more carefully.

Will update this post as I gather more info, but I am not too certain when this build released and if all of the differences are intended for the final release.

The game looks promising, however there are two points that worry me a lot: I haven't seen anything either about the fact that the characters have passive skills and strengths / weaknesses on their units like in Advance Wars. and we also haven't had any information on the presence of a skirmish mode and especially the possibility of playing in local multiplayer.

Without skirmish mode this game is dead to me

Is there a way to play random maps against bots (skirmish)? Cheers

Edit: There's a lot more info posted on their Kickstarter updates: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lavabird/warside-a-pixel-art-turn-based-tactics-game/posts/4351702

Most interestingly it seems the difficulty modes make AI plan more moves in advance ("smarter") and the map editor can be used to make single-player maps, which would imply being able to play them against the AI (since it wouldn't make sense to build maps for single player if that weren't the case)
