Crabs / armor
What’s the best way to hurt these things? Is dynamite the only way?

There's lots of ways!

Firstly, the crab battle is one of the most difficult in the game and definitely a 'leave and level up a bit' encounter. It's tough because you only do damage on them with attacks that do at least 3 damage, meaning that abilities like Afur's multi lob can't dent the armour as they only do 2 damage each, plus the darkened room means that it's not possible to do Afur's exploding arrow ability.

Here's some good skills to invest in though:

- Chio's Sniper rifle - If you joined with the Chali hunter, at one point Chio should be given an ability to fire a rifle that does a whopping 5 damage. Using her teleport or jump skills to position herself strategically plus using the arrow heads that do piercing damage means you can hit a ton of crabs in a line
- Afur has an ability to level up the damage of his attacks. Using that before hitting a crab is a good plan. Remember that Afur's swap places ability also works on enemies, which is great to get better positioning
- Use poison damage! If you can get through the crab's armour by doing at least 3 damage, if you give yourself the ability to inflict poison like with the cactus needles that's another great way to kill the crabs by waiting for them to die of poison damage
- One of Chio's slash attacks can 'weaken' enemies. 'Weaken' in arco means that enemies are more susceptible to damage, making easier to penetrate through the crabs' defences once they have the 'weakened' status
- Use your items! You're already on the right track using tnt. Honestly, Arco gives you more than enough items, so give Chio and Afur as many heals, magia ups, or other explosive items that you think would benefit you in battle

Good luck!

Thank you for the thoughtful reply. I came here too early and Chio left my party but that would have been a great way to handle this fight.

I understand the armor UI now, it wasn’t clear to me initially.

Have a great day!

Ah I didn't explain myself clearly. When you have the Chali hunter named Aabroo join your party, after she leaves and gives you a feather, later on in the story Chio, the lady Tuag twin in your party, is given the opportunity on how to use Aabroo's rifle ability. Once you have that and combine it with the arrow heads item (not what the item is called but I can't remember their actual name) that makes your attacks piercing, it makes the Crabs encounter a lot simpler.

And thank you!

Ahhh! I was confusing Chio with Aabroo. I’m a bit later in the game and got that ability with Chio now. Crabs don’t stand a chance.

I tried to use those tips before I made the post, I want to say the description didn’t make it clear that they only worked with firearms so I thought they were broken.

The crabs don’t stand a chance now haha. What a great game.
