which battles in the game are "unwinnable"?
because winning a fight and then being told i wasn't supposed to gets tiresome once, but twice is just ridiculous

The gunman fight at the end of act 1, after you escape is unwinnable. The final fight in the arena tournament is also unwinnable. Those are the only 2 to my knowledge.

You can win the fight at the end of Act 1, it's ridiculously hard and the story seemed to progress as normal from there. I'm still playing through so I'm not sure if it'll affect the ending or not; my assumption is that it won't as there isn't an Achievement for it as well as the popup telling you on your next playthrough that you can skip Act 1 as it's a Tutorial which won't affect the story.

You can also beat the arena, but then the dev literally pops in and says something to the effect of 'yeah we get it, you are good at the game. now let's move on' and things proceed as normal.

In comparison to the fight at the end of Act 1, the fight at the end of Act 3 is actually very doable. It's still a rather difficult fight, sure and you gotta ask yourself if you want to tryhard it for 0.5-1h when canonically you still "lose", but it's very winnable with the skills you can have at your disposal at that point in time, especially if you skilled Health Buff. Fight ends after 3 waves of guards. Hits higher than 3 punch through the armor even while they are blocking, so for example damage buff + Spin II is a safe way to damage the enemies because they will get pushed away. If unguarded you can 2 shot multiple guards at once. And then just kite around for cooldowns and magia.

I ended going for the "dynamite + exploding corpse" route. Took ages tho

How in god's name do you win that fight? I managed to get through the first part through hit-and-run tactics but the first turn the sharpshooters show up they snipe me no matter where I go.

I cheated. I was curious if it was winnable and I couldn't do it legit.

I did notice you can hide in the corner behind the big rock and avoid a lot of the sharpshooter shots if you know to go there before they show up, but that wasn't enough to save me either.

paku lets your explosions penetrate the shields. Makes it much faster.

I still haven’t beat it, but I’m making progress. Sharpshooter bullets are red, which have friendly fire. Combo it with hiding behind the rock.

How did you cheat?

Standard RPG cheating: use Cheat Engine, look for your Health stat, when it drops look again until you find it, lock it to a high value.
I replayed both fights several times before googling and realising they were "unwinnable". The arena guards in particular are more tedious than difficult and I wasted an hour thinking there was a light at the end of that tunnel.

I love 95% of this fantastic game, but the "unwinnable" fights made me lose some faith in the game's systems. Much better to remove them and replace with a plot point where you have no choice of action imo.

If you get through enough rounds of guards, it will stop and you will get an achievement.
I managed to beat it by using 2 skills who allow me to jump. A jump in to do some damage followed by a jump out to avoid attacks and allow me to regen some mana.
I was both disapointed and pleased by the appearance of the dev. I mean, It took time and some thinking to do it and the dev don't even praise me, that's absolutely outrageous! :D
how many rounds of arena fight 6 you need to do for the achievement? it was good up until there was no new dialog anymore. it would've made sense to give the achievement once there was no new dialog anymore
