You start your path, like a normal straight line move, then hold the A button and draw the rest of the path.
IMHO, this needs to be explained a bit better in the tutorial.
2. Normally, you’d TAP ‘A’ to confirm the path. DON’T do that.
3. Instead tap AND HOLD ‘A’.
4. While holding ‘A’ use the left joystick again to curve the path.
5. Release ‘A’ to confirm the path.
Looks like when you press and hold A, it uses the path cursor at that point as a bezier anchor point to then draw the curve as you move the joystick.
On PC is the same, just replace button presses with click. So it's like this:
1. Use the mouse to “draw” a path as you would.
2. Normally, you’d click to confirm the path. DON’T do that.
3. Instead click AND HOLD it.
4. While holding the click, move the mouse around to curve your path.
5. Release click to confirm the path.
