What is the use of throwing the sword?

Im just getting back into this game, and i unlocked her high jump finally, which is pretty cool. FRom what ive seen, throwing the sword gives you light? i was in a dark dungeon, couldnt see much, threw the sweord and there was some light. BUt is that all the function of throwing the sword?

If you have sun greaves or the helical power aspect, you can jump and kick the Dream Breaker after you throw it, and it will hone in on nearby enemies as an attack.

Also, throwing the Dream Breaker can produce light. Which is good if you enter the Underbelly through the breakable wall in the Dungeon before you get the ability for the Dream Breaker to act as a light when you're just holding it.

Yeah i went in some dark dungeon, then i threw my sword and it acted as a source of light. When i picked it up, it was still glowing but not as bright

I also mistakenly thought that throwing it at certain graves/fountain spots would unlock secrets
