Your rewards are nigh identical either way. Old Lady Malentia will sell the armor and shield of the one who dies, while the victor will hand you their own armor, so you can easily get both. The victor also gives you a key to a room in the area that has a trapped treasure chest, and will mock you once the trap goes off, regardless of it harming you.
My advice: Run in, attack whoever you can lock onto first, and show no mercy.
So kill him and Creighton will give you his armor. Then kill Creighton b/c he's evil anyway and betrays you
