Dark Souls 2, to me, is very much a Dark Souls game! It's exactly what it should have been, I have no complaints.
Demon's Souls is the last one I'm playing through, hence imo it's the far easiest of the souls series to me.
90% of people will tell you Dark Souls or Demon's Souls is the hardest one, simply because of that's the first one they played, that's just a bias one has to live with. Besides if you play these games for the allure of them being hard well.. to be honest they're not that hard once you learn how the basics of combat functions.
To me these games feel a lot more like playing good old action RPGS from the N64/Playstation era, it's far more about the journey and exploration than it is the combat or difficulty.
So far Demon's Souls is the most fun I've had with the series but Dark Souls 2 takes the cake on the pvp end of things. But as an entire game, I've got to give it to Dark Souls 1, it's like this sweet spot between being as obtuse as Demon's Souls while still not having the way, WAY too simple well... everything of Dark Souls 2.
My main complaint with Dark Souls 2(except for the AI constantly getting itself stuck into a looping subroutine and waiting for it to reset itself) is how simple they've made everything.
You only got 2 ring slots better choose carefully! Let's just make that 4 and just wear every worthwile ring.
Only 4 weapon slots to play with, try to cover your bases! Let's just give them 6 weapon slots so they can easily deal with everything ever.
Soul ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ memory. Just do all of the things, do a magic school throw some pyromancy ontop of that, don't forget 40/40 dex & str! Just use all of the things all of the time! Woooooo. \o/
When you're just able to do everything at all times the game just .. loses the mystery and discovery of trying a new build or a new weapon. I'm not even gonna touch on Soul Vessel's.
Anyways I've ranted far too long.
TL:DR Dark Souls > Dark Souls 2 pvp > Demon's Souls > Dark Souls 2
In Demon Souls you had gear/item weight limits, thus allowing you to only carry a limited amount of, say, healing items and arrows. If you picked something up but reached your weight limit, it would be gone if you died/returned to the nexus (aka Majula). This made me approach areas rather carefully and gave it a realistic twist that made it even harder.
Something I enjoyed in Dark Souls 1 alot, was the fact that you could get VERY far into the game without having to kill many/any bosses, allowing you to run through the entire game getting your gear setup that you intend and then actually starting the game. This does however also include upgrading materials, which I think should have all been behind harder boss areas.
Now Dark Souls 2... It was the first one I played, hardest for me (controls I curse you) but I don't get why so many people complain about the lore. playing through DS1 I didn't notice such an amazing "story", I guess we just didn't figure out DS2 yet. I do however belive that DS2 took a funny approach at being "hard", repaireable protection rings (I didn't even FIND one in Demon Souls), way too many slots, SM (I somehow don't believe in protecting noobs, not in any game. I will not hunt them down, but .... meh), NPC summons easily available for every boss (the relative NPCs almost always sit at the bonfire), shortcuts that lead from one bonfire rightto the next one (undead copse... why from?). All in all I think that DS2 had the least "Oh I figured this out" moments... all bosses are dodge/dodge/slash/dodge..., DS1 and Demons had puzzlebosses and environment that you could use to your advantage... God what I would give for save areas @ ancient dragon...
Still, DS2 plays best out of all of them simply because the movement mechanics work really well.
Dark Souls 2 = More playable of course. But it lacks a bit in the level design and most bosses are too easy. If you want a challenge in Ds2 I recommend getting the DLC's, really some troll moments in that one :s
Never played Demon Souls, but I might pick it up together with a ps3 :)
Dark souls
Dark Souls II
From best to worst
As for Demon's Souls I have no idea.
It's either better than Dark Souls or worse than it.
Should still be better than Dark Souls 2 though.
You know the team that made Demons/Dark Souls 1/2 were pretty much the same bunch of guys other than 1 or 2 "significant" individuals?
Miyazaki was the supervisor on 2 rather than the director (which makes next to no difference) and one of the main designers left the company to be a university professor. Miyazaki didn't even work on King's Field or Shadow tower or any of the earlier games most of this stuff comes from so isn't really the "father" of the series or the reason for half this stuff and most definately not it's asthetics (KF was darker).
DS1s world was far form coherant. Dark woods below a brightly lit sky, even from a bridge above the trees. Dark Anor Londo/Light anor londo makes no difference in Sen's Fortress where it's brightly lit and day. Theres lots of "artistic licence" taken in all. Unless you go for the whole "amnesia" explaination for the incoherence in DS1 and 2. :D
there now quit asking silly questions
Demon souls=Meh...boring...frustrating...ugly and unapleaing and the ending is ♥♥♥♥..and the final boss is ♥♥♥♥ too......music was dry and boring....Just thow it into a bin right away
Dark souls=Masterpeace with great level design, fantastic bossfights and interesting characters as well as great world to screw around in, but my god it has infinitly more flaws than positive notes...especially on the technical side.
Dark souls 2= basicly More dark souls 1...buut it is missing 1)level design 2)The characters are little less interesting 3)Less screwing around ...everything else is still there...The challange is there, the bossfights are there, also it has FAR less technical issues. people just bash it because a different team worked on it, but eh they didnt do that bad of a job.
Edit: Yes i did just say demons souls was bad...hate away! also i couldnt care less about bloorborne! cause i am not a fan of buying a game that is behind a 400$ paywall!
Can you please name one boss that could be desribed as a puzzle? all of thease games have the same pattern of, Dodge-dodge-hit-dodge-dodge-hit-win ...ooor Parry-win...the only boss i can think of that had something resembling an eniromental advantage was...the asylim demon...and even thats just a plunge attack..wohoo i gess
Dark souls 2 bosses are harder Especially the DLC bosses...Fume knight gives manus and artorias run for their money, while the gank squad is running after them calling them filthy casuals that cant git gud.
Smelter demon>3 copy paste demons Ruin sentinels>Capra demon Throne guardians>Dumb and dumber, Nashandra>Gwyn why? because of his attacks are so telegraphed that if you have a slightest HINT of parrying...he wont even be a boss...just 5 minutes of watching a ragdoll being tossed around..nashandra on the other hand has unparryable attacks that have idioticly large hitbox..not to mention the constant curse that is the most annoying thing PERIOD.
People who talk that bosses were easy seem to forget the list of bosses in ds1 that were piss easy:
1)Pinwheel...can be rushed with a zweihander 2)Iron golem...christ couldnt they pick a different "guarduan" that does NOT fall over like a clumzy bear? 3) Bed of chaos...which isnt even a boss 4)Gaping dragon...yes scary at start..laughable in exacly 1 minute after you figure out that that idiot is complitly blind 5)Seath the scaleless...hug him and he cant do anything 6)Ceacless discharge...yea...just...1 shot him..by running away...7)Nito, it was really nito that he has like 2 attacks and 2 spells that anyone who isnt blind can see comming, a honorable mention goes to 3 copy paste asylim demons...all of them are baiscly the same.
Another thing is NG+....NG+ of dark souls 2 is...leagues ahaid of dark souls 1.dark souls 2 adds lot more.."stuff" in ng+ while dark souls 1 just adds more HP and damage to mobs...
Dark Souls 1 introduced the plunge attack (that actually had an animation on bosses where you would actually plunge your sword into them) and was made available on bosses, but you had to look carefully, asylum demon, taurus demon, capra demon, kalameet (difficult but possible), Havel (hahaha...).
Priscilla in is rather puzzling, as you go in expecting a boss fight and she just... stands there. I didn't find logan and therefore didn't know about the crystal that protected Seath, but when I entered the bossroom and saw noone until I approached that crystal... and then seath raced in like he was trying to protect something? + He couldn't be wounded before? Bed of chaos is a puzzle boss + dodging + blocking. Also ceaseless discharge, although I wouldn't have figured that one out on my own.
The biggest advantage in a boss fight in DS2 that comes to mind would be the parted roof at the gargoyles... and maybe the light for the lost sinner (but that one was too well hidden for my taste, didn't know about it until ng+3). You can always cheese them, but hey...
edit: fume knight is impossible without killing the maidens around him first... so.... puzzling?
Dark souls 1 has the best lore and world design (for me)
Dark Souls 2 Has the better connectivity and combat (in my opinion!)
But Demons Souls is deffinitely on the bottom of the list for me, not that it's a bad game, i just don't like it as much.
But if i HAVE to choose a order, then it will probably be
Dark Souls 1-Dark Souls 2- Demons Souls
I thought Dark Souls 1 was just so great all around. The NPCs, lore, the mind ******* world design and how everyhting was connected in some crazy way. And it seemed to be the fairest of the series, if you died, it was yor fault (except maybe the first mimic but that can be argued)
It's what a masterpiece of agame is in my mind
Dark souls 2 is close to being the best for me though since im sucha sucker for the PvP
