Katana or Straight Sword, which one?
Hey guys.

I'm currently going with a rather all-rounder build, decent mobility, decent health/resistance with a somewhat heavier inclination towards magic use. Weapon playstyle tends to be the classic sword and board with the occasional dual wielding.

(my idea behind the character itself was to create sort of a sturdy battlemage, but with hexes)

But I still haven't been able to decide what to use as a main weapon.

Currently I'm looking at Katanas and Straight Swords. I've had some experience with both of them, but need help to decide.

What are the PROS and CONS of both of them?

Why would I use a Katana over a Straight Sword?
Why would I use a Straight Sword over a Katana?
And how are Curved Swords compared to both of them?

What are the best(or most popular, and why) Katanas/Straight Swords in the game?

Also, lastly, I've been thinking about trying out twinblades. Are they good for PvE, or just PvP? Any tips?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Dark Chaos Blade

What makes the Chaos Blade the best choice?

well its kinda like op as crap, when buffed it will do damage on par with that of an ultra greatsword, and its also quite long though the 50 self damage per hit dosent even matter much when you just nuke eveything...which is why about 40% of the player base uses it.

Dark+5, 175/175 S/B with 150 counter. Basically, it's a fast weapon with good AR that can hit for too much if done right. Counter would be high dark resist.

Katanas in general are pretty broken.

Running attack hitbox is huge, attacks fast with little stamina consumtion and good reach.

Too much damage for such a spammy and hard to counter weapon etc.

What kind of rings would you recommend using alongside the Chaos Blade?

I picked up the Dark Clutch ring. It seems like it would do well with a Dark 5 Chaos Blade with Dark Weapon buff.

Also, what Katana for PvE? The 50HP per swing, while acceptable vs a player, seems a little bad when dungeon crawling.

Depends on what moveset you like. The Uchigatana, Blacksteel or Manslayer are all fine for PVE

Buy lifegems.
I play thru "PvE" powerstancing chaos blades. Which IIRC makes you lose 100hp per swing. But just keep supplied on lifegems and a close eye on your hp and you will be fine.

Just use a mace.

Katanas in PvP are for people that are so bad they need broken hitboxes do half the work for them.

Let alone piercing swords.
Both of them are easy to use, katana tends to do more damage in trades, which just makes it even forgiving really.

Katana,i would love to parry it with my small shield.

By using longswords 1hand r2 attack you can catch people on the end of roll effectively, when it's infused with magic\dark\lightning\whatever and buffed with needed spell it hits like truck, had tons of wins with this weapon. But if you will meet gmb user\burr eater you will deal much, MUCH less damage, so have weapon with pure phys damage as backup.

Sadly my experience when I played the game this afternoon. First I was like, wtf is going on? I can clearly see the dude's katana isn't connecting with my body, but it shows me taking damage. Ah right, the hitboxes are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. That's nice.
