I mean really, Ubisoft? Studio of the year? Have we entered the negative zone?
GOTY is a stupid concept anyway.
Ubisoft names Studio of the year? Come one. The same company that locks everything at 30fps because its more "cinematic" and had some guy claim recently that the human eye cant see past 24fps.

Theres a website where you are given different choices and then everyone chooses their favirotes.
The only community that really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about Ubisoft are PC gamers, which aren't the largest group (though are probably the most whiny). If you aren't a PC gamer, then Ubisoft don't really do much wrong and have had quite a few popular titles fairly recently (AC4, Watchdogs, Child of Light etc. etc.)
The inherent problem with polls like that is what if your favourite game is not included. Back in 2012 I played FTL at a friends house and it ended up being my favourite game that year. Theres a lot of people who share my sentiments too yet it would never be featured in Golden Joysticks. Everything has to be AAA essentially to even qualify to be in the GOTY category.
One persons GOTY is not another persons GOTY. It reminds me of any media award show. Just an excuse for an industry circlejerk
Different strokes for different folks though. Personally I just dont like the idea of GOTY :/
Play Advanced Edition, it's worth it.

If you think about it "indie" games are going to be heard of by less people, so in a democratic style voting system more general interest titles that more people have heard of are always going to come out on top even if they were better.
Though there is an indie title or something (though lots of people were pissed off at the game for some reason at the time (can't remember the drama exactly but there was one) which would have probably not helped it anyway).

Most recent was the dev for Paranautical Activity saying he was going to kill our lord Gaben
Noo FTL had some drama about it not being finished or something weird, I remember a bunch of people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it at the time, though I didn't really pay enough attention.
Valve kind of get some kind of weird pass for being "indie friendly" while doing almost nothing to promote them and taking a 30%+ cut for their "efforts". So maybe that was why? :D
