Sunbro's are a sham covenant.
Lets face it, we all love to praise the sun, even if for some of us we only do it privately in majula... And dont lie guys Ive seen tons of phantoms doing it at least once. You all know you are guilty.

Anyways, the point of this thread is sunbro's are not sunbro like at all now. in times of old(ds1) sunbros would always be there wth their glorious golden glow at almost every bonfire waiting to assist you in your perilous journey. and much like the noble Solaire of Astora, they would know no end to the hardships they would endure to get you through your endless fght against those who would seek to smite you with a few swoops of their weapons, and their only ask for reward was a handful of souls and a single sunlght medal. such bravery, for a smple yet priceless token of offering for their beloved god.

Fast forward to DS2.

Sunbros Only place ther signs at areas easily accessed for bosses so they can get in the quick boss kill for their sunlight medal, you will rarely - if ever see a sunbro sign just waiting to be summoned at a "challenge area" such as the famous Ganksquad of DLC1, Smelter Demon of DLC2, Frigid outskirts of DLC3, where the reward of a sunlight medal would be greatly deserved and these acts would go a long way to sunbro's reclaiming their true co-op fellowship honour.

tl;dr

Sunbros are lezy and you don't see their signs at any of the "harder" areas of the game.

REDEEM YOURSELVES!

Rofl most people join this covenant very early and leave for better one as soon as we get what we want, there's no point in staying in that covenant such late game as dlc.
It's not like they own you anything anyway.

This is the attitude of sunbros now, take what you want and leave, nobody turly praises anymore. :(

There are several reasons I place my signs near the easily accessible boss doors, with the most important reason being efficiency.

When a sign is by the boss door, it's because we want to help with the boss. We don't want to be summoned only to find out that the Host wants us to join a fight club or gank squad or whatever. It also takes time to go through the level, and it is much more likely that they will die for no apparent reason (ie falling) than if they were to die fighting a boss.

Say it takes around 5 minutes to take down a boss, and 10 minutes to go through a level. If I placed down my sign at the start of the level every time, it would take on average 15 minutes to get someone through the level and beat the boss just for one person. (1 boss * 1 person / 15 min )

If I were to consistently place my sign outside a boss room instead, I could help three people kill the boss in the same amount of time (1 boss * 3 people / 15 min).

Then there is the issue of supplies. If the host fails (which is much more likely if they summon us at the beginning of a level), we need to resupply by going to a bonfire. This is also why you will see signs nearby more accessible boss doors.

The thing is its too damn risky for some areas, for example, the blue smelter demon. Getting there is a pain in the ass, and if you run past all you monsters then you still have to put your sign down and wait patiently while you get summoned. And what if you chug most of your estus or use too many life gems just for the host to die? You have to go rest at a bonfire and do it all again. And what if the host dies again?

And as you stated in you original post 'and their only ask for reward was a handful of souls and a single sunlght medal. such bravery, for a smple yet priceless token of offering for their beloved god.' Yeah....not that good late game when you get to the "challenging" areas, what good would a sun light medal be when you have already got rank 3? At least with a token of fidelity you can use it to heal the host. And for most end game bosses its around 20-30k souls.......when you can farm loyce knights in the dlc and get 100k+ for just that.

How many times have you been summomed for the ancient dragon to have the host beat it first try? Yeah not many :)

Just keep in mind, im not trying to sound like a ♥♥♥♥ or anything but damn cut us some slack, we sure do praise the sun :D Not to mention you see tons of "Praise the sun!" Messages with tons of rating :)

tl;dr Think of it from our point of view, risking time and effort to get to those hard areas, to consume most of our estus and other valuable just for the host to die.
I really wish they made Sunlight Medals useful, after you get sunlight sword this cov is useless.

Maybe if sunlight medals had a secondary on use effect, like a MASSIVE heal to the host. Or a stacking buff of some kind depending on how many you had collected. I'd go sunbro again if the medals had another use.

I myself greatly enjoy helping other people, I often times drop my sign right at the first bonfire of a given area. Could I get alot more out of being summoned if I only dropped it at a boss? Probably, but I'm motivated by something else entirely.

The medals should give a +15% miracle boost for 30 seconds. Because the sun covenant is based on miracles etc, even the ring gives a tiny faith boost

Solaire would be ashamed to call you all brothers. He praised 24/7 and didnt even care about sun medals

Actually every sun bro praises the covenant because its literally what they do when they are getting summoned :)

Agreed. I have lots of them, and they're just collecting digital dust in my inventory.
I wish they could be used to heal hosts, just like tokens of fidelity.

This game discourages lots of coop. SM will eventually put you out of range. Also token of fidelity has more uses. This game seems more about getting what you need efficiently than doing whatever.

I've gotten what I wanted from sun medals and continue to participate in jolly cooperation as a sunbro. Why? Because someone out there always needs help with something, and that's what we're here for. Helping and playing side by side with others is fun and rewarding for the all involved. Lately I've been placing my sign down at the dlc stone statues, as I don't own any of them, and know people have been having difficulty with the new bosses. When I do purchase the dlc's, I'll also summon a fellow sunbro or white phantom from the statues, since they've been generous enough to do so for me.

Same here, sometimes I'll leave the covenant to get a few tokens of fidelity just in case. There really should be another use for sunlight medals, hopefully they'll patch it in.

Sun Sword is glorious. I left that covenant as soon as I got it. Still helped out as a phantom though. Don't need a gold glow to be a good bro.
