Pure cleric is going to be pretty difficult because the offensive spells are fairly underpowered. I recommend emphasizing strength and faith, then using your faith to boost your lighting damage later in the game. If you chose cleric starting class, you've got a mace that will be very good until later in the game. Upgrade it with titanite whenever possible - this is better than leveling.

Since armor isn't all it's cracked up to be, avoid damage by rolling. To do this effectively, put stats into adaptability, about 20 is good for mid to late game. Unless you want to do tons and tons of casting, your attunement can be relatively low - especially early on.

Level endurance, vigor, stamina according to your needs as a player. Since you're going to be doing lighting damage, faith needs to be really high (40-50 late game). Put points in STR and DEX until you can wield the weapons you want.

Finally, if you're just starting out, try Heides Tower of Flame after making some progress in the forest. Heides connects to Majula, it's the tunnel near the Champs covenant. You should be able to rock the knights with that mace. If you can manage to get past the first boss, you'll find a cleric that can sell you spells.

^ true. if you're going for PVE then as soon as you get drakeeper greataxe + sunlight blade you become unstoppable. Not so good for PVP though

Like the guy above me said, the mace from cleric class will be your go to weapon till you kill the boss AFTER the boss the guy above me mentioned. You will land in a new area, where you get 'heide Spear', from killing an Npc, and you have in your hands one of the best weapon in the game.
As for spells, the most useful one you will be using would be the original heal spell you start with, until you are in the high 20s of faith. So basically focus on dexterity early on so you can start using the Heide Spear right from the point you get it and see where you get from there.

Yeah, that heides spear naturally does lightning damage, so it scales well with faith. Then, later, you'll infuse it with lightning at it's even better. Great weapon.

My top weapons for a faith build are:
Greatclub (aka great pancake maker, weak durability, keep a backup on hand)
Defender's Sword (still good post nerf, buffs itself with lightning)
Grand Lance (dat charge, tho)
Wrathful Axe (sunken king dlc weapon, spin to win)

^glad you mentioned grand Lance. There is just something natural, that is for a faith build to be using a Lance, like a paladin of old. Consistent 800s on counters help too. Not many people realise the beauty of the Grand Lance, or any Lance for that matter, in this game.

They can be pretty easy to dodge in pvp if you know what you're doing, but they own in pve. Before I ever really used them, I traded mine to another player. We dueled afterward and he dual weilded lances. It blew my mind when he got me with his power attack. He just kept. on . drilling :O

step 1 > get minimal stats for long sword or rapier
step 2 > get 100 agi
step 3 > make it lighting
step 4 > get enough hp and stamina
step 5 > get 40 faith
step 6 > get GMB, sun light blade and great heals 2x
step 7 > buff your rapier with sunlight blade on pve on pvp use gmb and sunlight blade and rekt everything work also with katana
