It's very much useful, it adds 10 poise damage,(equal to 30 Practically) enough to stagger any mob in the game with a weapon with as little as 20 poise damage by fault, except ironclad soldiers and some others. PVE applications are more useful than pvp though...

It's useful for fast/small weapons such as daggers and rapiers, which wouldn't stagger opponents at first hit otherwise.

hmm now i see why my dex build benefited mote as i attack faster.

i was expecting it help my big stagger weapons like gs or mh to stagger in 2 hits but still takes 3 yet a heide knight sword takes 3 also....

its dumb! very dumb

so basically fast low poise weapons even my bandit axe doesnt stagger in 3 but a heide sword does...

The effectiveness depends on the weapon you are using stone ring on, and the enemy you are hitting with it. Some enemies will never stagger without a parry or guard break, and some enemies can be staggered in one hit with anything using stone ring. Put stone ring on a twinblade and the extra poise dmg on every hit adds up to be absurd.

Also some dlc bosses use a different system where they stagger at 30% health no matter what, and will never stagger outside of hitting that threshold.

well, in PvP it almost gurantees a stun on anyone when your using straight sword matierial or above... but poise is so random in PvP, it's just better to focus on defense, style, and attack timing, as this ring on can mean stagger after stagger even with the heaviest armor on...

But don't you stagger enemies pretty easily in PvE without the stone ring? I'm sure it helps somewhat, but I'd like to actually see a video where someone did a comparison.

Take Alonne captain for example... I think we can all agree that they hit pretty hard (more so the red phantoms in NG+ or higher). Taking a weapon , such as Varangian Sword , or Rapier which has 20 poise damage... these weapons without ring will not stun the captains on the first hit , hence the captains will continue to perform their attacking animations and hit you as you hit them , outdamaging you all the time. But with the extra +10 poise from Stone ring , every R1 from a 20 poise weapon can stagger them , making them easy to stunlock and kill at one go.
This is just one NPC we are talking about , and sure , players can dodge the Alonne Captain's attack , get a hit in , and then proceed to wait for the second dodge and so on , but Stone Ring helps getting the job done way more simpler... Of course , weapons with 30 poise damage or more such as Greataxes , Hammers and all don't need Stone ring since their default damage surpasses 95% NPC's poise value anyway. In short , Stone ring are only good for weapons with poise of 20 or lower for PVE atleast.
stagger damage just helps you break their 'poise' value on their armor, if you break the amount you 'stun' them for a bit, This poise value regenerates slowly.

It's good for pushing certain weapons over the limit to stagger particular mobs in one hit instead of 2, which can make a big difference, moreso than another ring can. But that's the whole game, certain items for certain builds for certain situations.

Invaluable in PvP.

thing it doesn't scale well with big stagger weapons as they still need 3 swings with the ring...yet a heide sword will stagger with 3 and do it much faster! 3 swing with a ugs takes ages compare to a 1 hand weapon...

overall theres much better ring choices!

Stone ring is useless for UGS. Stone ring is useful only for 20 poise weapons. invaluable for dagger-only or fist-only builds.
Hurricane Apr 16, 2015 @ 6:18am
which was my point.

works nice on dex builds as i said.

bottom line its a useless ring late game as you have a much better selection!
