You can use the small white soapstone when you're hollow. If someone summons you and you manage to help them out within the given timeframe (e.g., don't let them die), you return to your world as human again.

you can be summoned as hollow (small or normal white sopstone), but to summon or invade, you must be human

you can be invaded while human or hollow though.
