WTF Duke Dear Freja Primal Bonfire Monster

So I just killed Freja on my 6th play through and when I touched the primal bonfire I was knocked to the ground by an explosion. Then this giant mutated face shrouded in flame came out and talked to me about being crestfallen and told me to seek out Vendrick. Is this an NG+5 thing or is this a DLC thing that I missed?

its a new npc added in the latest update you will see him several more time

Hmm.. I didn't see him when I went through that area.. I've been keeping an eye out for this character, but I haven't looked up spoilers.

Don't use magic on him... at all. At least not Sorcerery.

Don't use magic on the NPC? Or do you mean Freja? This build is pure melee.. I just haven't seen the NPC yet, but I'll try not to cast any spells on him when I do lol. Thanks :)
