Aldia is spot on with what he is saying. He isn't telling any lies. The choice at the end is either continue the Age of Fire (the Lie) or usher in the Age of Dark (the Truth). DkS1 was proof of this - Anor Londo was abandoned by the Gods and they have left our world. The bright sun shining upon Anor Londo itself is an illusion, as is Gwynevere and most of the enemies there too. Gwyn himself burnt his soul out to keep the Age of Fire going because he (the Gods too maybe?) feared the Dark and humanity.
Dark Souls II is still the Age of Fire (given the fire still exists). DkS2 says (it's clearly implied) your choice in DkS1 doesn't matter because even if you didn't rekindle the flame, someone just came up behind you and throw themselves into Mount Doom.
Listen closely to everything Aldia tells you. He is the only one that tells you anything. I wonder what you will choose in the end....
EDIT: If you got all the crowns and had them empowered too, then you know already that when worn nullifies the curse. If you were to choose the Truth you will be the only one that will still be alive when and if the Age of Dark ends and the new Age begins.
