You can powerstance it.
The Staff of Wisdom has the latter problem in spades; its very f**king tall and the spell emission point it as the head of the weapon, as opposed to the hilt when using the Blue Flame. When using Hidden Weapon upon Blue Flame, it appears as if you are casting directly from your hands.
Lastly, the Blue Flame is both a weapon and a catalyst, allowing you to use that weapon slot for something other than a non-functional-in-melee catalyst. Like a shield, or a Bow, or even a Pyromancy Hand... whatever you want. Adding in the combo potential, Blue Flame allows a high ATN build to easily transition between melee and spell casting without utilizing another hand or doing a weapon swap, saving you time and (likely) a Human Effigy.
oh yah and its also a sword.
But I tested the dmg of the blue flame+5 infused with magic and the staff of wisdom+5 infused with magic. Even if I cast crystal magic weapon onto the blue flame the dmg is still lower than with the wisdom staff ( 1122 compared to 1236 )
Tested with the last giant in the memory.
Staff of Wisdom is excellent for PvE, but it requires some finesse for PvP. Blue Flame is excellent for PvP but it needs a lot of maintenance (due to its role as both a weapon and catalyst) in PvE.
