Blue Flame
My english isn´t the best so I hope you understand what I´m trying to ask ^^

My question is about the blue flame +5 infused with magic in a sorcerer build. The Magic Staff of Wisdom+5 infused with magic deals more damage than a blue flame+5 with magic even when you count in the 5% damage boost. So why are so many persons swearing on a blue flame+5 with magic in PvP? I absolutly don´t get it. Shure, if you don´t want to rely only on spells and range attacks a sword is a must have, but the damage of a blue flame+5 isn´t that great - there are other weapons that deal more damage.

So why are there so many people swearing on a blue flame+5 infused with magic when you don´t use it for spells (Staff Of Wisdom) and could have better options for fighting with swords?

Well you can buff them both with Crystal Magic Weapon and power stance them... besides that trick they don't do anything special.

Everything with spell casting involves having to "combo" a spell into a melee attack pattern. This means building around high ATN (for casting speed and spell uses) and high Stamina (for maneuverability). This also means using fast attacking melee weapons with decent poise-breaking potential (Stone Ring, OP; +20-30 poise break) and a catalyst that is relatively low to the ground so that your spells will not go over the head of a close range opponant.

The Staff of Wisdom has the latter problem in spades; its very f**king tall and the spell emission point it as the head of the weapon, as opposed to the hilt when using the Blue Flame. When using Hidden Weapon upon Blue Flame, it appears as if you are casting directly from your hands.

Lastly, the Blue Flame is both a weapon and a catalyst, allowing you to use that weapon slot for something other than a non-functional-in-melee catalyst. Like a shield, or a Bow, or even a Pyromancy Hand... whatever you want. Adding in the combo potential, Blue Flame allows a high ATN build to easily transition between melee and spell casting without utilizing another hand or doing a weapon swap, saving you time and (likely) a Human Effigy.

The spell damage from the blue flame actually benefits from the crystal magic weapon, so you can buff the sword and get a decent damage boost.

ok so if you infuse it with magic AND buff it with crystal magic weapon then the spell damage is about the same as the staff of wisdom. it has 110 counter damage, so if you hit some one with a spell while they are coming out of a roll, running or attacking it does even more damage. It also has a lower cast point which doesnt sound too great, but once you miss a few spells that should have hit because they went over someones head, you start wishing that your staff didnt cast from 3 m in the air.

oh yah and its also a sword.

Buff with Raw if your INT is >50, buff with Magic if your INT is <50. Despite losing out on the B-rank INT scaling, Raw Blue Flame is actually pretty good, boosting both Physical and Magical damage, not to mention the weapon being able to be buffed with every resin or weapon spell in the game.

Thanks for all the answers! Helped me out a lot! :)

But I tested the dmg of the blue flame+5 infused with magic and the staff of wisdom+5 infused with magic. Even if I cast crystal magic weapon onto the blue flame the dmg is still lower than with the wisdom staff ( 1122 compared to 1236 )
Tested with the last giant in the memory.

Staff of Wisdom is excellent for PvE, but it requires some finesse for PvP. Blue Flame is excellent for PvP but it needs a lot of maintenance (due to its role as both a weapon and catalyst) in PvE.
