B-astard gs - early, farm from hollow soldiers wielding it at Forest of Fallen Giants or as treasure in same location.
Bluemoon gs - very early, kill Benhart at Majula.
Old knight gs - early, farm from old knights at Heide's Tower of Flame.

H. mace - at start of the game, preorder bonus.
Mace - early, buy from Majula blacksmith or potential Majula goblins drop. Cleric stock weapon.
Club - early, buy from Melentia at Cardinal Tower or potential Majula goblins drop.
Morning Star - very early, on dead body at Majula.

There is moderately early greatswords that require you to kill at least two bosses.
There's moderately early mace that require you to have 8000 souls + access to Majula blacksmith.

I recommend you to look at Bluemoon gs - you can get it very early, it has no stat scaling(no stat investment besides it requirements), very good damage, requires titanite to upgrade(cheap).
Or look for a Mace - very good poise damage, great stat scaling, low weight, low stat requirements, requires titanite to upgrade.

This.
Great Club isn't hard to get either, all you need is at least roughly 1375 heatlh to survive the Majula pit, from there it's easy to run through the Gutter to get the Club, you don't have to fight anyone on the way.

But ultimately the Greatsword is one of the best PvE weapons in the game so I'd go with it. Clubs aren't that good realy except for pancaking.

Just wanna say that, for what the OP is asking, the weapon named Greatsword is not a Greatsword, but is instead an Ultra Greatsword. Ultra Greatswords are larger, slower, heavier, and generally need higher stats to use.

Ultra Greatswords one-or-two-shot most early game opponents though and aren't hard to use at all despite being slow.

Kill Pursuer, get Drangleic Sword, continue to McDuff and grab the Twinkling Titanite, upgrade to Drangleic Sword +1, bam you have the most powerful early game greatsword.

Best early game hammer is the Mace, either start as cleric or buy it from the smith. There's also the Craftsmans Hammer at McDuff which you can also use the Twinkling Titanite on.

The mace is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awesome. It just ruin the early game bosses and it can even beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of the alonne knights. 3 Hit them and they are chain stunned when you 2 hand the mace with the stone ring.
