Because they are easy to spam people to death and counter dmg is high. I like katanas as well but i dont use them much.

It's mostly because they're used by every tryhard and cheeky player in the game. They're fast, good damage, usually a high counter damage bonus, and they get a lot of advantage from latency. If you want to use one and avoid the hate, you'll have to avoid spamming at all costs, only use the ones with 130 or less counter, and try not to buff it unless you absolutely need to.

So, essentially, use the Blacksteel and only buff when your opponent does. If you like katanas for their style rather than for their cheesiness, then that should work well for you.

Additionally, most of the community doesnt really see the Bewitched Alonne Sword as a katana, since it works more like a pole-arm and has little to no spamability.

I don't like katanas because they're generally the weapons I see the most when I'm getting hit from lag. Standing behind a person? Oh, sorry, his forward slash just hit you. Standing outside the range of the spear you're holding? His katana is still hitting you. I just never seem to run into stuff like that against other weaponry.

Use whatever weapon you like, brother. If we outlawed almost every weapon in the same way, we'd all be using the same stuff; at the end of the day, you'll end up dead if you're not using what you know how to best and what you feel good using. I dislike it when people use the Ice Rapier, and spam magic at me, but as long as they don't cheat, lag-switch, hack, etc. It's in the game for them to use and I'm alright with that.

P.S. Each time a weapon or armor is frowned upon, it's by players in the U.S. (: The rest of the world seems to use whatever works for them so don't get caught up feeling guilty over using what you like, haha.

Haven't used it much so just speculation here so something like lag not taken into consideration. That 150 counter with that AR means trading blows against it is suicidal. Speed is fast enough to get counter hits easily. The AR with that speed makes it good enough for just attacking. Poise damage is high enough to prevent most tanking. They're also lightweight and don't have much requirement. It's pretty much the perfect weapon.

I've personally had more hatred against axes, really. Again, mostly because of lag + their tracking (the amount of times I've seriously been hit BEHIND someone because of those two together... ugh).

My only distate against katanas is that I see EVERYONE using them. Same with the red iron twinblade, actually.
