My god, the casting speed changes..
Just played a lil Dark Souls.

Pyromancy was okay but ye gawds, when i swapped to my cleric and the beyond sluggish, tar like, slow as molasses casting speed of the (Great) Lightning Spear miracles were absolutely ridiculous.

Dark Souls II might have some (serious) issues but the casting speed changes (even though still tied to a staff/chime) are a godsend, at least as far as clerics are concerned.

So that's one change i'm now happy they made.

But Dark Souls 1 Lightning Spear/Great Lightning Spear are far more badass.
It doesn't sound like some poncy fairy-dust sprinkle when chanelling it, it sounds like you're actually summoning the power of Lightning

Plus it's got 10 Casts, deals stupidly high damage to near enough everything, and can only be Obtained once per Character, unless you hack in more copies.
'Course you can't replenish Spell Casts outside of Resting at Bonfires, which means you can't rely on it carrying you through everywhere.

Well, when you put it like that i suppose you do have a point.

Though my cleric does pretty good damage with her meager ass casts of Great Lightning Spear in this game vs Dark Souls where she starts the channel, waits a moment for the spear to form, then again waits a second before actually throw it out.

But yeah, it's a bit ridiculous how the miracles been nerfed to the damn ground.. if they wanted people to have 10ish casts, then why not just remove the extra copies/replace em with something else in the loot tables?

I'm happier with the fact that you can recover spells now more than increasing casting speed. I just wish they go back to MP system. I do admit that casting speed as a stat is a very nice addition.

Honestly, I don't think it really matters if the lightning spears cast fast or slow or how many charges they have because in the end they still do awful damage. Before they nerfed the damage on them my miracle user could actually kill mobs with the lightning spears with a +5 Lightning Dragon Chime and 50 faith in New Game. Now I don't even bother slotting it anymore. If it's that bad in NG, then I can only imagine how bad it is in NG+ and beyond. =/ Hands down my most disliked change since release. =(

Completely agree, the knock back power of Sunlight Spear is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ invincible in DS1, in Ds2 is like shooting a water pistol

But after hitting someone with Sunlight spear in pvp you could legitimately tell him to git gud.
DYNIA Oct 6, 2014 @ 2:29pm
well I use mirror knight set and GMB, lighting spear take me 5-10% of my hp, I don't even bother to dodge that I just charge to caster and rape him melee lol

GLS does shoot a bit faster in Dks2, but how many bolts should it take to kill a mob? In this new DLC, it's like 6 casts. It's basically been relegated to being used to pull mobs now (something which can just as easily be done with a basic bow and wood arrows).

Well, i can one shot enemies (50 faith + maxed, lightning infused Dragon Chime) in ng @ Iron Keep at least, don't really know beyond that since i've never actually thrown any spears at enemies that aren't bosses.

So yeah, not that impressive since it'll only go downhill from there, i'd imagine.

However, i don't think the spears are intended for trash enemies, as aren't they considered equal to Soul Spears in power and no one uses those on trash mobs.

You can fart and kill enemies at ironkeep the DLC enemies have high HP high DEF and VERY high poise spears are now garbage.

So you're reviewing miracle based on one/few enemies from dlc that are supposed to be way harder than enemies from base game?
I don't even

The devs didn't like people casting their way though the game. Can't blame em since magic should really only be supplementary.

When I invade gandalfs who are 3mil+ SM that do nothing but shoot magic I always wonder how they haven't gotten bored of the game by then.
Legas Oct 6, 2014 @ 6:32pm
IMO lightining spears should have very few casts, cost alot of attunement slots, be hard to get in the game and should deal huge colossal damage to both mobs and players.

It's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thunderbolt, not a water gun.
