Smelter Demon Sword

I can´t buy this sword, even though I have the soul. Why?

Regular smelter demon soul only makes the regular smelter sword, you need the blue/magic smelter demon soul from the Iron King DLC to make the aged smelter sword.

The game has a pretty dumb way of checking which soul it is, because they're technically the same. The blue smelter demon needs to be dead in order for you to trade the aged smelter sword.

Are you talking to the correct NPC? There are TWO NPCs in the game that trade boss souls for weapons, they don't trade the same weapons for the same souls. The Smelter Sword is gained from this NPC http://darksouls2.wikidot.com/straid-of-olaphis

If you are trying to get the BLUE version then you need to first kill the Blue Smelter Demon in the second DLC before it becomes available.

Worth noting you get the Blue sword from Ornifex the crow, not Straid and the Smelter Demon has to be dead in the current NG cycle.
