Once you beat Aava you will be able to talk to an NPC in the next area. Stand on the podium in the main hall and you should get a prompt to talk

Welp here's hoping op found out because here's a "big spoiler". You have to find the eye of the priestess and then kill Aava, the King's Pet and then Elsanna (a shard of Manus, from dark souls 1) will "melt" all the ice and then you get to backtrack through all of Eleum Loyce plus places you haven't been too yet. Enjoy .

An occasional reminder to everyone that Dark Souls 2 had necromancy magic in the game but we weren't able to use it. Feels bad man. Imagine being some edgy necromancer mage who would summon skellies & hollows to fight for you.
