If you are... the fight becomes trivial, just cast Soul Appease. It will kill ALL the little rats in the room (and deal a nice damage to the boss as well).
They count as hollow creatures.
After this.... just make sure you stay under the Royal Rat Authority.
Funny fact... Soul appease also makes this other fight pretty trivial as well. It will kill all the rats from the room, and damage Vanguard as well.
Those rats also count as hollow creatures.
Soul Appease = Overpowered lol
You don't, the boss is completely optional. And there's no item in the room he's protecting.
Just a little room with the rat king, for people that want to join his convenant.
If you decide to skip him, you'll lose nothing.
The boss fight at Grave of Saints (Rat Vanguard), however, does have items available after. Which are Pharos lockstone, Disc Chime and some other I forgot. So it might be worth it for you.

[/quote] Alright so there no boss soul for him but if I kill the rat king don't the cat give me something good?
Oh, good point.
Actually, he DOES have a interesting soul to trade with Straid. If you're into Pyromancy, of course.
If you give Royal Rat Authority soul to straid, he'll teach you Toxic Mist. So that may be something to make you want to try the boss fight again.
The range of it is huge, but you'll have to aggro the toxic rats first.... Run towards them, as soon as they start running towards you, cast soul appease.
By the time you finish the cast, all of them will be within range.
but really if you wanna kill it stay underneath it i found that not using lock-on was the easist method for me (Str/faith build)
But cant seem to kill him at all maybe I have more luck with the vengrade
