Ancient dragon soul...

So i am currently killing the version of the NG+ bosses that drop new souls on NG+ by using bonfire asthetics on NG, and after killing Freja i noticed the crystal formation where her grand soul used to be, to my shock i got inside the memory of a dragon, inside i saw what looked like the ancient dragon from Dragon shrine inside, but he was dead.

Wth does this mean? Why would the memory of a dragon be near the duke's pet spider Freja, and why was the giant dragon dead?

Just so you know, that memory is there in NG. You don't need NG+ difficulty to unlock it.

The theory is that the Ancient Dragon you meet isn't really the Ancient Dragon, but Aldia(The one who owns that keep) who was doing weird experiments. Apparantley he is the one who made those dragons and found a way to make an ancient dragon body and infused his soul in it. It not only explains why Nashandra calls the Ancient dragon a fraud, but when you kill the Ancient Dragon it doesn't contain the soul of the Ancient Dragon rather, a lost giant.

As for how the Original Ancient Dragon died, I have no clue.

Speculation is that the memory belongs to Seathe. That is, you're seeing what Seathe saw, not that the dragon in the memory is actually Seathe.
