DARK SOULS™ II

DARK SOULS™ II

Statistiche:
Feeling really disappointed about DS2
I'm really disappointed with Dark Souls 2. Kind of feel a bit screwed over.

It's like they had a list of the features from Dark Souls 1 and were just told to mash something together which was mostly the same but a little bit more expanded on every dimension.

DS1: White soapstone. DS2: Let's make it big white soapstone and small white soapstone!

DS1: Pyromancy, miracles and sorceries. DS2: Let's make it pyromancy, miracles, sorceries and hexes!

DS1: Small home area with one guy, slowly filling up. DS2: Let's make it large home area with several guys, slowly filling up!

DS1: One covenant to protect an area against invaders. DS2: Let's make it two covenants to protect areas against invaders!

DS1: Distinction between being human and not being human. DS2: Let's make it a scale of humanity!

DS1: Two ring slots. DS2: Let's make it four ring slots!

DS1: Sometimes fighting 2-3 enemies at once. DS2: Let's make it fighting 3-4 enemies at once!

DS1: You can leave a sentence using orange soapstope. DS2: Let's make it two sentences!

DS1: You start with 5 estus flasks. DS2: Let's make it so you have to gradually work to get estus flasks!

It's like they set their worst people to just robotically make every part a little bit more expanded than Dark Souls 1. And since that was their focus, the creativity has suffered. Bosses are extremely unmemorable - oh look, I am in a cave fighting some kind of skeleton guys! Oh look, I am in a room fighting some kind of armored guys! With few exceptions I don't know who the bosses are before fighting them and after it's just "eh, another big soul". The fluff text on the items just fails to stir the imagination.

And another area that has suffered are textures. I am in the area with the minotaurs, after shady forest. And it strikes me how terrible it all looks. Like very surface is plastered with the same texture. Like someone was told QUICK, TEXTURE THIS BRIDGE MODEL, YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES! CLICK CLICK CLICK CLICK OKAY DONE! Hope you like moss green. And if you fall off it's like you fall into a some kind of... I don't even know what. Some kind of weird sheet of something moving sideways.

Overall feels like a project made by interns who had no vision except just trying to go a little further on every measure.

Disagree entirely, games great in terms of content. It's only the technical side that sucks. ("port" issues etc)
Well I enjoy Dark Souls 2.

I like it a lot, but I do feel like it could have been more and that, yes, they were too busy struggling to replicate the usual formula without the help of the original director to add more depth. Much of the lore and characters also feel like cheap imitations, not legitimately interesting and fleshed out.

Nah, it also has elements from Demon's. And King's Field. And so on and so forth. It is a mishmash of elements from everything FROM's done with similar themes. Maybe even Shadow Tower but I have not tried that. It mixes, expands, and builds upon them.

DS1: White soapstone. DS2: Let's make it big white soapstone and small white soapstone!
Both which have different uses and rewards. As well as the small one being a faster way to get back, and a very good option for exploration.

DS1: Pyromancy, miracles and sorceries. DS2: Let's make it pyromancy, miracles, sorceries and hexes!
Mmhmm. Which again, Dark 1 expanded from Demon's, which was miracles and soul arts/sorceries.

DS1: Small home area with one guy, slowly filling up. DS2: Let's make it large home area with several guys, slowly filling up!
Right out of Demon's, actually.

DS1: One covenant to protect an area against invaders. DS2: Let's make it two covenants to protect areas against invaders!
And they work completely differently from each other!

So, expanding over things that were already expanded once is being creatively bankrupt now? Eh.

Former, kind of agree. The bosses are meh for the most part (with exceptions, of course, the chariot is a pretty different thing from ANYTHING in the series thus far), but I disagree with the fluff text being bad on the soul items.

And another area that has suffered are textures. I am in the area with the minotaurs, after shady forest. And it strikes me how terrible it all looks. Like very surface is plastered with the same texture.
... Minotaurs? Don't you mean lion men?
The texture tiling IS pretty bad there, though. I agree.

Which could've as easily been said about Dark, coming from Demon's. It expands, it mixes, it tries.
It fails at several things it tries, but that does not make it "uninspired".
Not a fan of the rehashed and lazy boss design

You can enjoy something yet still point out the flaws it has.
Something people still can't seem to drill into their head.
So, if I didn't play DS1 I should enjoy this one a lot...

Nah, if you expect more of DS1, you will be disappointed.
I've played Demon's and Dark 1 since their respective launches. I am also greatly enjoying DS2.
Hell I already greatly enjoyed it in console. So much that I preordered the PC version as well.
I'm overall pretty disappointed with the game as well but I think you're nitpicking a bit here. The issues you raise are a very small problem, if they are problems at all. My main gripe is the new engine, character movement feeling floaty and weird compared to the older games and the bosses being way too easy and similar to one another. This is just my opinon though and I'm sure others disagree.

I played both earlier games and I'm thoroughly enjoying this one... same sort of game, which is what I wanted. Good stuff, if you ask me. Enjoy

Yeah I loved dark souls on PS3, didn't get DS1 because of the horrible sub port. I didn't want to go download all of those mods to make it playable. I'm waiting for a deal to get DS2 though. Can't wait to try it.
