Odd bonfire spots...

Been a while since I got on one of my character and noticed that I have some bonfire spots greyed out and labeled as "???" and also have several more "areas" with the same thing (none of which I think actually exist...) Anyone else get this? I can still play perfectly fine, but I haven't tried going to one of the greyed out bonfire spots.

Did you go into Drangleic castle without the great souls? I.E with a Soul Memory of 1 million+ and did you defeat the twin dragonriders, etc, and get past the giant painting that curses you? I suspect the game sorta bugs out if you go through Drangleic Castle without having been to the other areas of the game.

Those are areas/bonfires that you haven't gone to yet. Try to find them all!

this showed up after i talked to nashandra i think, it shows you all the areas that you havent viseted yet, and im fairly sure that they all exist, as I found all the extra bonfires in areas ive been already by useing this.

I did go to the castle, I GOT the four souls but one of them dissapeared magically (no I didn't trade it for a weapon/use it for souls)

Some of the ones that got changed ARE ones I've been too, and I doubt that I haven't been to roughtly 12 new areas, as far as I can tell there's only places I CAN'T go to yet without the kings ring.

I think it just reveals what's left. It made a slot for the belfry for my character who hadn't done the gargoyles, for example.

I suspect it may have something to do with killing the final boss in each area, perhaps the game's way of telling you "Hey you've basically finished this area, but here's some stuff you missed."

Just something to give hints about all of the places and bonfires you missed. It's a part of the game in order to show you that you might still have more to explore once hitting endgame.

yes i was shocked at how many places that I had not found yet too, but in the end of the game i found almost all of them.

I belive you get to see those once you reach castle drangleic, it's like showing all the areas with bonfires that exist, they're grayed out because you didn't visit then yet. I don't remenber when it gets promped tough. After you beat the final boss the game will also show you the bonfires you missed inside the main areas, a easy to miss one being the third bonfire in iron keep inside the fire breathing horses room.

This. It does reveal the rest of the bonfire areas when you get to a certain point in drangleic castle as I've experienced it in NG and NG+ so it's not a bug it's working as intended.
