Go to Heides tower and defeat Dragonrider and proceed to No-Mans Wharf or... go to Persuers and kill him and use the nest to go to the same place called Bastille, which if I am correct, is after No-Mans Wharf.

Here is a good guide I used. No big spoilers just the ideal order of places. Also, there is a map underneath so you know where to go

The main thing you need to remember in DS2 is you can access a ton of different areas at the start (mainly accessed from the hub area, I wana say majula...) if you reach the end of an area check the hub or make sure there aren't any doors you didn't unlock or areas you decided to leave cos they were to hard earlier on

Yes. You can access the Lost Bastille after the Pursuer. No Man's Wharf is unecessary, unless you want to unlock a certain sorcery merchant.

Yeah, No Man's is tough early game since you only have 2-3 estus flask. And if you're not careful you'll use up all your life gems. The worst part about it is the high amount of enemies in the area. But once you get a better weapon or just later in the game, return there. There's some decent loot in the area. Although I'm not sure if the boss drops a soul. But it's not a hard fight with Lucatiel.

If you're having trouble with the long armed things, they're afraid of fire. Carry a torch, or use the Fire Longsword. The torch will repel them.
